Alternator

Recommended Posts

Alright, so my alternator just seized up and I need to replace it, however all of the auto parts stores that I check seem to only have a 90 amp alternator, which is what I believed should be correct. However, my build sheet from chrysler lists a "BAFP 130 Amp Alternator". Does this even exist? If so, where do I get this? I don't want to downgrade because my alternator went out.

I recently bought a new one from Autozone and they had several to choose from. I ended up getting a 100 amp which is plenty since I don't run auxiliary equipment. Bring the old one with you to avoid core charges and to compare the bolt pattern. They first sold me the one for a 2.5 which I didn't realize until I tried installing it.

I assumed that was what they put in it since they said 130 Amp. I'll have to pull it out and check it out, but thanks for the heads up.

Odd that they would mess up like that. I should go to my dodge dealer and tell them "Hey, my build sheet says 130A and this one is only 90!" I'm still on the original brake rotors, maybe I'll try for that recall too...

Goof on the build sheet - mine said the same when I had the 90A alt. Since you have a 91, a good upgrade is the Nippon-Denso 136A ZJ/Dodge alternator. Was an easy bolt-in for me.

Hi Hornbrod,

i know this is an old thread...would the Nippon Denso 136A described above be the choice for my 1992 MJ 4.0 upgrade from stock? I don't think the above link works...

Thanks!

Not trying to speak for Hornbrod but there are several writeups on this. I've done it to my 91 which required some minor grinding to bracket, but helped my buddy on his 92 xj that didn't require any grinding. I may be mistaken but I think Hornbrod has posted that his 91 required no grinding go figure. To answer your question it works great either way I would look in to upgrading your cables why your at it good luck.
