HOrnbrod Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Just got back from Naval Air Station Pensacola FL. My brother-in-law recently received word of promotion to an E9 IT (Information Systems Technician) Master Chief, the top enlisted rating and one of 21 in the USN. Needless to say it got pretty drunk out last night at the Chief's Club. I still feel like crap............

HOrnbrod Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 Tell him congrats from San Diego and the uss Rushmore LSD 47. I just took my engineman e-4 test I'm not sure about 20 years that's a long time and a new navy. How long has he been in? He did it the very hard way. He was in originally for five years, made E5, got out because his dad passed away and he had to take care of business for his family. Then re-enlisted three years later as an E4, and worked up to the top. He has a total of 19 years active duty. So he's been in the old and new Navy. He much prefers the old Nav, as I did, but was able to adapt. Good luck on your 3rd class test shipmate. Hope you make it, even though you're a snipe. :D Seriously, even with the new Navy, with the economy and job situation as it is now, it's not a bad option to hang in there.
ejndssn Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 well done  with the tough selection process he made it congrats. and as for you codymanche i do :agree: with sir hornbrod's advice even the services are experiencing some difficult times as well :brows: if you tend to stay navy  just keep an eye on the prize and don't lose sight of it cause making rank is only going to get harder and the service is looking for any excuse to reduce its numbers.
codymanche Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 we have scares about a check in the navy to. yes it is good employment wise but money isnt the greatest either. but things are changing. we see. so is he active still and he wearing both stars now?
HOrnbrod Posted April 21, 2012 Author Posted April 21, 2012 His E9 becomes effective in July. He was going to retire this year as an E8, but now he's staying in for another couple. He'll spend the rest of his time at Pensacola and will retire there. Also my daughter will be commissioned into the USAF in a couple of weeks and he'll be coming up to Tuscaloosa for the ceremony for her first salute. Will still be a scumbag E8 though.
