MancheKid86 Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 installed my ax-15, i have 2 x-members that are stock and they don't entirely line up, I'm using the back mounts for the x-member, the furthest back line up, the front holes on x-member do not, they are 1" to far forward, has any one had this problem?? if so, what x-member do i need to fix this?
Dirteatr717 Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I have my old crossmember still, you can have it if you pay for shipping

Blue88Comanche Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 this may sound a little stupid but, is the rubber mount on the correct way? I also noticed the rubber part can be put on backwards (rotated 180 degrees) and move the x-member by about an inch left to right. there are 2 sets of mounting holes for x-members. My BA-10 used one set, and the AX-15 used the other. is the crossmember backwards?
MancheKid86 Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 no sir, i had to grind the stock bolts off the cherokee's extra cross brace just to take it off x-member is almost identical to the one i took off the tranny on the right
Geonovast Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Neither of those pictures can reveal if it's an AX-15 crossmember, but from how the mount looks in the second picture, I am betting it is not.
Pete M Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Did the XJ have an AX-15? need to see the other side of the crossmember.
HOrnbrod Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Yes, the way you can ID the diff between the AX-15 and AW4 (which I think you have) crossmembers is the center section. Looking at it from the top, the AX-15 dips down about 3/4" while the AW4 has no dip; it's straight across. Also the right side indent for the exhaust pipe is formed differently. I've just been through all of this trying to drop the tranny w. an AX-15 member, but it caused my exhaust pipe to rub due to the headers.
MancheKid86 Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 Yes it has the 5/8 dip, Found out my problem, lpaint + dirt and rust covered the other mounting holes, Got it mounted, and went snaaap, all the threads toast, Just got back with my helicoil kit
