JeepcoMJ
ouch. how're the control arms? likely bent I'd think. body-wise it looks very fixable, though.
shawn
suspicious about the wheels. if i was a buyer i'd like to know the story behind that.
DirtyComanche
Doesn't look bad to me. I'd fix the alignment and drive it.
Sir Sam
ouch. how're the control arms? likely bent I'd think. body-wise it looks very fixable, though. It's possible the control arms are bent, that certainly happens plenty off, but I have a metric butt ton of those sittings around, so thats no biggy, the lower control arm bracket looks straight, so I'm not too worried about that being an issue either. I'll just toss on a new knuckle and arms if need be, I really doubt I need to get whole new front axle. The body repair is trivial, honestly its going to take more time to clean this thing up inside than to replace the body parts, I already have new red body parts ready to go in, its going to take about a half hour to strip down the old parts, a half hour to adjust the fender "L" bracket, and maybe about 45 mins to install and properly align the new parts. Total time for cosmetic repair, less than 2 hours. Plus I already have all the new body parts in red ready to go: suspicious about the wheels. if i was a buyer i'd like to know the story behind that. I don't know the story behind the wheels, but I've done this enough that I know the story behind the wheels. Someone put on some new tires, they spent somewhere between 600-800 in new tires, maybe they even had some nice stock alloy wheels. A month or two or three after the new tires were put on the vehicle got wrecked. The insurance company said "we will give you $4500 for the vehicle" the owner went, well I just spent $700 on new tires, I want $5000. the insurance company said "no way, but you can take your tires and wheels off as long as you replace them" So the guy found some wheels on craigslist with tires, maybe paid $100 for them, went down to the yard, took his nice tires and wheels off, and then put on these old crappy ones. I see it all the time, lifted TJs with bald little 215/70/15s on the crappyest even mismatched wheels. A nice limited cherokee missing the original factory alloys......etc etc, same thing happens with stereos too. All that being said, I have a set of eccos that I am going to refinish and find some decent used 15" tires for and put them on this thing to sell it. Doesn't look bad to me. I'd fix the alignment and drive it. I already have what I consider to be a nicer XJ than this, I would rather cash it out and make a little money on it. yellaheep
LOL....... nice stash of parts Sam...... You wouldn't happen to have the full front clip for a '97+ in gold would ya...... :D
terrawombat
Hooray - you finally got one with relatively low mileage. I think you'll be able to flip this one for a nice price. I had a '99 that took a similar hit in a similar spot, but it did bend the control arm and waste the lower bracket - it also bent the axle tube. Sir Sam
LOL....... nice stash of parts Sam...... You wouldn't happen to have the full front clip for a '97+ in gold would ya...... :D Sorry I do not. I've been hoarding these 97+ parts for awhile, generally when I find good fenders or header panels at the junkyard I pull them. It doesn't happen often, so when you do find them its important to grab them. Hooray - you finally got one with relatively low mileage. I think you'll be able to flip this one for a nice price. I had a '99 that took a similar hit in a similar spot, but it did bend the control arm and waste the lower bracket - it also bent the axle tube. Ya take what you can get I suppose, but its nice that this one is low mileage, after the outside is fixed and I detail the inside its gonna be a pretty clean XJ. The control arm is not bent but the LCA mount is, I've had really good luck repairing those mounts but between that, the steering, being messed up, and the knuckle I might just toss in a different axle. Unfortunetly this one is not going to be as easy as I hoped, the passenger side fender support took a pretty good hit so I will need to replace that, not a huge deal as I have done it before about 3000 times, but its still a little bit more trouble. The hood also got a little damage, so I'm not sure if I should try and deal with it or give up on the hood and respray it.
kyleag89
How much do you usually sell these 97+ XJs for out in Colorado? They don't bring too much money here in MD.
Sir Sam
How much do you usually sell these 97+ XJs for out in Colorado? They don't bring too much money here in MD. $4000 or so for this one would be a fair price(if not a bit more).
Globex
How much do you usually sell these 97+ XJs for out in Colorado? They don't bring too much money here in MD. Funny i'm up in jersey and a clean xj with those miles would do 4500. I sold a 99 xj with 93k miles the other day for 5200. Around here any late xj with under 150k miles will do 3500-4000 fast. Anything over usually sells for around 3000.
Sir Sam
How much do you usually sell these 97+ XJs for out in Colorado? They don't bring too much money here in MD. I was curious about what prices in your neck of the woods are, so I found a few things on craigslist to compare to: $3500, 99WJ, 200k miles http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/2838479257.html 99 XJ, 170k, $5500: http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/2830032611.html 160k $3500: http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/2797343356.html 98, 150k $3800: http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/2805439982.html 134k 00, $4300: http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/2868122359.html So prices are comparable if not a little higher than there. Plus mine doesn't have rust....I mean ZERO rust.
