4.10 gear d30

This seems to be a rare piece. Are there certain year models/makes that these were specifically put in so that it might help me in my search? I need one quickly. I guess a 3.73 would work as well cause i believe it uses the same carrier as the 4.10.....Right?

3.73 uses same carrier as the 4.10 right? What about the 8.8 rear end also..does the 3.73 8.8 use the same carrier as the 4.10?...I know the 8.8 to get is out of the 95-01 exploder but does anyone know if it is the same axle in the sport trac?

Yeah, the D30 carrier break is 3.55/3.73, so you can install 4.10's on a 3.73 carrier. But what are you looking for, just gears or a whole axle? For the hassle of installing a new gearset you could just install a complete axle already geared.

 

2.5/AX5 combos are most common with 4.10's but don't assume every 2.5 has 4.10's.....2.5 autos with the 904 generally have 3.73's, and if you're lucky enough to find a 2.5/AW4 combo there should be 4.56's under it, stock :D

I want the whole axle...Swapping gears aint NO fun...Not to mention I already have the front and rear out from under my truck. I am planning on cutting off the steerin knuckles(need rotated for correct geometry)...sleeving the d30 w/ tube then trussing the beeotch. I got my practice cutting off the knuckles on the d30 w/ 3.55 gears last night...Oh boy is that fun. :rant:

If you can wait a couple months, and plan on being anywhere near eastern VA, I'll sell you the one under my MJ now for cheep ;) I'm too short of cash right now to get the D44 I have regeared to replace the '35 in the back (4.56's). I already have a D30 geared 4.56, but don't want to run mismatched axles and loose 4WD.

A TJ D30 will bolt right up. They have the bigger 297X jointed shafts in them as well. All manual, 2.5 liter TJ's have 4.10's. The auto's are 3.73's. 4.0 TJ's never came with 4.10's except the Rubicon models and that isn't a D30 front, it's a D44 (sorta). The only downside to using a TJ axle assembly is that it is a low pinion Dana 30. All of the MJ axles were high pinion.

It's the piece inside the differential housing that the ring gear bolts to, and encases the spider gears. Most axles have a "break", which means the physical size of it changes depending on what gearset is run on it. As the pinion tooth count decrease the pinion gear gets smaller, which moves the pinion teeth away from the ring gear teeth. A different carrier is then required which spaces the ring gear closer to the pinion. You can, however, use a low set carrier with deeper gears, but you have to purchase special "thick cut" gears.

the xj that my cousin just bought is a 2.5L AW-4 :D Or was, the motor is toasty and the block is now a boatanchor. I also found an '86 XJ with the 207, 5spd and no rear axle, the front comes out to 4.09 so, it should match my turdy-5 wqith 4.10's from my 2.5L 4spd. I'm debating on what setup to use haha.,

yeah yeah..nobody likes a bragger rob :D ..I am still searching for my 4.10 d30 but have an added question...I keep gettin asked in regards to the 8.8 axle is 6cyl or 8cyl..apparently they are different..which one fits the MJ? I am rapidly getting a junkyard of axles :eek:

yeah yeah..nobody likes a bragger rob :D ..I am still searching for my 4.10 d30 but have an added question...I keep gettin asked in regards to the 8.8 axle is 6cyl or 8cyl..apparently they are different..which one fits the MJ? I am rapidly getting a junkyard of axles :eek:

 

if anyone wants to travel up here with a trailer to get these axles, they can have 'em for $25 cdn a piece. I'm doubting wether or not I'm going to swap the axles into my MJ, I'm waiting for a J-truck or MJ to stuff a 383/4spd into, so its all up in the air still haha

To ship axles using a freight company is around 2-300, and they don't car if it is one or two on the pallet as long as you have access to a loading dock and a fork truck. Sometimes it is just cheaper to pay a carrier, unless you come across a deal like I did on my 60 and 14 bolt, the guy drove from Jersey to my house for 200 bucks.... I don't even think that would cover gas :brows:

While it is theoretically possible that I could throw them on the trailer next time I visit my sister, that's not likely to happen until springtime at the earliest.

well, the predicament is that they're buried under 4 tons of hay, mud and wood under a collapsed barn. We're definately sure about the 2.5 aw4 combo under there. Cosmetic surgery will be req'd when we get them out, the body was prettymuch shot and the drivetrain was still decent. I can wriggle my way in close enough to touch the right front fender but there's no room. Come thaw in the spring everything will come out. We've seen this XJ out driving as of 4 years ago, problem is, the grandfather was a big jeeper and kept all his old Jeeps stored under this barn under the concrete floor, where the tractors should have went.

 

 

If those pictures in Charles' photo album are his grandpa with all those jeeps, this may be a holy grail for jeeps, as the pics show a FC, a few CJ's, A LWB '87 MJ with the 4.0l badge on the tailgate (which is still MIA).

we found the cj's out in the field, except for one. the FC, the MJ, the XJ's, one of the CJ's and an old 50's Flatfender are all, and should still be, under this barn whch nobody really bothered with. His grandpa put the XJ in there after he had his first heart attack. he died 4 months later and the barn collapsed not too long after. Me and Charles are renting an excavator to dig out the barn. We may have found the holy grail of old, decent shaped, rare jeeps haha.
