big66440 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 can renix jeeps be upgraded to the newer automatic serpentine belt tensioner's?
carnuck Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I wouldn't. Manual is far superior and doesn't wear out as fast.
flint54 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Well, I will, respectfully, offer a different view. I would switch to an automatic belt tensioner in a heartbeat if I could find that this has been done before (I have not yet found it having been done, even though have asked around here and elsewhere). I have had many vehicles with this spring-loaded device, and yes, they do fail sometimes, but I've never had one fail in less than 70k-80k miles, and they're cheap and easy to replace. A worrier would do well to carry a spare. Tensioning the belt by adjusting (beneath) the PSP is a royal pain in the a$$ comparatively. two cents...
87Warrior Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I too am interested in this. The tensioner in my TJ is still holding up at 110k miles. The problem, I don't think any XJ came with the auto tensioner.
