Shoot, you could bring those cans in and pay back some of your investment.... I was planning ahead....er about 2 years ahead. :rotf:

Yeah... there just might be two years worth of beer cans in there!

I think it's about time to throw some attention at this. I spent the morning removing the '93 XJ underhood wiring... sorry Austin... and then hosed on some degreaser to sit and soak. Everything came out okay. I'll probably try and track down a pressure washer to finish up the firewall and way down in the deep corners. While everything was dripping off, I moved to the interior. Pretty standard here... removed the dash... found three dead mice... started thinking about patching the floor... I'll probably wait on doing any metal work until everything is swapped over from the '91 so I can move it around under its own power. Right now, I'm trying to get everything done and prepped as far as I can before taking the '91 out of commission.

Already thinking about finishing too. I haven't done it for a long, long time so I think I'm due for a rattle can paint job. Any suggestions on color?

Been lurking around on the interwebs looking at rattle can paint jobs and I think I'm leaning towards a few colors from the Rustoleum pallet.

Maui Blue:

Burgundy:

Gloss Army Green:

Wifey's vote goes to the green. I'm really don't know... thoughts?

Awesome, sounds like you plan on making your own "Oscar".....a Reliable and semi straight DD that can be drivin year round in any weather and not have to worry about a flaw here and there!

Sounds like a plan!

Pretty much... maybe a little less green though.

I'm liking that Green alot! Maybe throw some gold stripes down the side :rotfl2:

Yeah... I know... I really wasn't thinking green until I started looking at some colors that I liked.

  • 3 weeks later...

It's almost time to take the '91 off the road and pass the point of no return. I'm expecting to break every single bolt taking that truck apart so once it starts getting swapped over, there's no going back! As for the new chassis, it got a little more stripped down. The interior it totally out, along with a few more underhood items. The manifolds came off due to the crack in the exhaust manifold big enough to... how was it Austin?... "big enough for midgets to walk through".

While I was in there, I started looking at what I'm going to do for fuel lines as I know the ones on the '91 are not going to swap over nicely. Fortunately, Austin left the lines for the 2.5 that was in there and the quick connects at the firewall. Cool! I'll just leave that alone and splice into the rubber lines that connect to them.

On to the interior, I knew that the floors needed some attention. I was happily surprised that they're still mostly solid! I only need to change out the common spot under the pedals.

Here' an interesting spot on the trans tunnel too. You been hauling around chubbies in the past, Austin?  :laughin:

Well, the box came off too to take a closer look at everything and I was again happily surprised at how solid the frame is. I've got a couple mouse nests to clean out, but the only real rust is on the axle and springs.

Hmm... I still have some work to do. I kinda wish I could just do some magic Freaky Friday type of change-o switch-o.  :thwak:

Well, today was the day that the poor old '91 was taken out of commission. Had a couple things to take care of in the new chassis then things really started happening. The door jams got a coat of new paint just because I thought it'd be easier now and less over spray later on in the interior.

Then there was the '91. It was almost sad taking things apart as I really haven't had any issues with the truck over the almost two years that I've had it. It's really for the best, though. The rust in it is just too deep to structurally trust it for too much longer. So, I started with the dash. Plans are to go from the firewall forward just to get it running again to I can move it around the yard under its own power. Metal work next, then paint and reassembly.

In preparation for the under hood change over, I got the manifolds back on.

On a side note, the weather forecast calls for potential hail. Seems strange to try and protect something that looks like the white truck over the red one.  :hmm:

Gave this truck another couple days of attention this weekend. Wiring from the firewall forward is all done now along with the wiring all the way back to the taillight harness. No real surprises. Had to drill a few holes, but otherwise everything just dropped in where it was supposed to. Everything pretty much just looks like an opposite of what it did a week ago.

... and a video.

... and now it moves!!! I should probably make it stop too.

Working on removing the rest of the parts from the '91 now. No sense in having two dumpy looking trucks kickin' around the yard and dropping the resale value of the neighborhood!

Maybe it'll drop the taxes too!

It was a sad day.  :( I've never had to scrap a Comanche before, but after digging into this poor truck I quickly found that this was really the best thing for it.

I have a tow bar for my VWs that I made up an adapter to dispose of the truck. My wife is ecstatic that I have a convenient way of pulling home more trucks. :shake:

Scrap day...

Like I said, this thing was bad.

The end.

Can't be said enough how sad it is to thin the herd. This being done, it leaves my attention on getting the donor on the road.

... and then there were three... and a half.

It was a long night thinking about putting that rusty truck out to pasture. Well... it's time to move on and keep going. Had a big day getting the floor taken care of. Pretty textbook repair in the left foot well.

Then came a nice, heavy couple coats of bedliner.

I was having so much fun I decided to polish off the can of bedliner on the rear frame.

I started on the shift linkage for the transfer case also. All I have is the shifter itself so I'm simplifying everything and just making up my own linkage. More on that later.

Your are not supposed to take pics at the scrapyard... Just makes life harder..

I brought my elim in one day and came back 3 days later and it was still sitting in the same spot. I had to relive the expirance again... And YOU took pictures!

Looking good brother. Hoping to swing down to go fishing with my work buddy that lives down there sometime this summer, I'll have to swing by.

Thanks, dude! Swing through whenever... we're always open.

I got off from work a little early so I came home to get the transfer case shifter done.

... and I desperately need to clean up the carpet.

Had a little bit of time I needed to fill today so I thought what better way than to put some attention to this. I got the headliner done along with most of the interior trim pieces. The seat out of the '91 was in super bad shape. I had a good seat around from another truck that had a rotten frame. So? Move the cover from the back rest from the good seat over to the '91 frame for the head rests, and move the bottom cushion over to the '91 frame. Done!... for today anyway.

My schedule had to get rearranged this week so that put me with another day to try and figure something to do. I decided that it was a good enough as any time to start the paint. The beauty part of a rattle can paint job is that you can quit and come back whenever you want! I got the roof, rear of the cab, and cab sides done... with minimal rework and runs to chase out later.

Oh! So many colors this truck has already been! Found some filler too.

... and then a bug landed right in the middle of the roof.  :fs2:
