big66440 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I was wondering if the charcoal canister can be removed and if so how do you bypass it?I will also be removing my cat I want to leave it set up so I can easily put them back on (both cat and canister) I have an 89 renix 4.0 AW4.
Pete M Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 why are you removing the charcoal canister? all it does it absorb excess fumes from your gas tank and then allow the engine to burn them off?

ParadiseMJ Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Strictly my opinion, except for #2. Both of your ideas are: 1. Bad 2. Illegal (Federal Law) 3. Unnecessary  Your truck won't run any better, you won't get any better mileage. Leave the cannister, replace the hoses. If you remove the cat and get caught...it's a $1,000 fine, at least...so you decide.
big66440 Posted September 14, 2011 Author Posted September 14, 2011 k charcoal stays, kitty still goes
ParadiseMJ Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 k charcoal stays, kitty still goes That's the illegal part. Just advice...oh, and federal smog law.
A-man930 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 No reason to remove the cat unless its clogged (only happens if you've got something majorly wrong with you ENGINE btw) and you don't want to pay to replace it. Which at that point I can understand.
