An 86' ey? Fair enough.

Recommended Posts

Well hello there, let's get the noob status gone here.

My first vehicle was a 94 XJ. I will post that up some other time. Today I have myself an old one.

I am sure some of you know about this one. I read the for sale thread and was much more interested after finding out that info. (Very early VIN.)

Anyways, I guess I will keep this one around a bit and tinker a little with it.

Had these laying around. The front right was blown so threw them in to see where it would sit, and how it would feel.

Really glad you found your way here. That truck is a good base for something good. Its less rusty than most for this area.

If you need some ideas or help, we have huge cluster of members in our area, including a few really nice trucks, and the Land Speed Record Comanche.

I'm just over the border in IL.

Rob

The guy I bought it from relayed me here. Good to see there is an active community here. Good to know there are some local people as well.

Thanks, I hope I don't have to ask as many questions as I had to with my last car.... (VW) :ack: Talk about a stuck up community.

This frame is in real good shape, it still has most of its OE undercoating. The body rust is mostly surface. The only bad is the drivers cab corner. Nice to find some patch panels someday. As for now I am just going through the front end, fixing the exhaust, and upholstering the seat. The rest will just be unplanned.

Thanks I do like the black as well.

Land speed record do tell..

Here was my other heap..

Ha ya I saw that you did. (I am sorry... ;) ) (Joking) I meant on the forums. Vortex mainly, the majority of the people suck on there. Too many opinions, I see it as it's your vehicle, do what you want. I felt like I was back in high school.

No I haven't pulled the carpet back yet. I just got the thing on Monday. I will most likely be taking the seats out this weekend to pull off the material and clean it up all nice. I would like to find that same/close material but that may be hard to come by.

The bottom of the floor underneath looks a little bad so I assume it won't be good.

I just got done messing with my brakes for the night. I blew a line in the rear.

SO where do I find good parts? That is easy to navigate.

Thanks for all the compliments on the interior, is this sought after?

Put the new bumper and corners on as well as fabbed up a plate mount out of some very thick plexiglass I had. The steering stabilizer was put in, I haven't been able to drive it yet to see how it feels. By the way the JK suspension rides like a cloud.

Rear main seal was done as well as the valve cover gaskets.

After this oil pan gasket ordeal is taken care of, my next project is all the tie rod ends and ball joints. I have the trucks value of new parts sitting in the bed right now, just need the time to install them.

Oh ya did a quick lift too!

I would love to know the build date and in service date of this truck. If we could ever get the info. I had your VIN ran and it has been deleted out of the system. I got lucky and mine was not cut yet.

Mine was built in 9/85 (not sure on the day) and put into service 10/85. I would like to know when both trucks rolled down the line. There has been rumor that just because the VIN run in sequence that does not mean the trucks were built in that order.

It's a Comanche X.

Check this VIN decoder for some other useful info.

Well my tag says 06/85, so ya the build date is there, but the in service is a different story. I am sure the dealer that sold it has that info right? Or is that a manufacturer thing?

Threw some more of the stock pile on today. As of today my amount of parts has exceeded the value of the truck.

I saw you driving in burlington on highway 11 by browns lake a few weeks ago.

really wish you had rounded the cut off on the fenders...that squared off cut does not look that nice.

Ya I saw your truck too. My cousin lives there.

I had to cut it that way to get rid of the rust.
