beepbeepmyredjeep
I know a lot of you here are Jeep nuts and have rather large collections. Truth be told, my MJ is really starting to get some age to it. I'm considering putting historic tags on it so I can give it a break and not be used as my daily driver. The mileage isn't high, but I really abuse it right now. I'm considering purchasing a mid to late 90's Wrangler for use as my daily driver instead. We get some rough winters here, so it would be nice not to leave my wife without a vehicle on snow days, since my MJ doesn't have 4wd. So, with that said, what to look for on the Wranglers? Are the prone to the same rust problems as MJs? Death wobble? Anything to watch out for? Thanks a bunch guys!

Pete M
darth does have a point. XJs are better. :D
terrawombat
A mid 90's Wrangler would include the YJ. I'd stay away from that for daily driving duties. The TJs are a much nicer ride and have much better interior comforts than their predecessor. However, in my opinion, they both aren't great for a DD. My GF has an '06TJ and when we go out to run an errand we'll choose my XJ 8 times out of 10. The 2 times we take the TJ are when it's nice out and she feels like putting the top down. The XJ is just wayyyyy more practical for every day use.
mjeff87
I DD an '01 TJ......while I really like it and it's a far different driving experience than an MJ or XJ, I wouldn't recommend one (as a DD). Not comfortable for long trips, it gets blown all over the place on the highway in windy conditions, cargo capacity is akward at times (I ditched the back seat two months after buying it, but there's still a bunch of things that just simply don't fit inside of it), and the 2.5L is absolutely gutless. If you do get one, make sure it's a 4.0L. All that said, IMHO it is the best vehicle I've ever driven in snowy conditions hands down. Jeff
COMJNUT
I've owned two 98 jeep wranglers, one had the 2.5L the other had the 4.0. The one with the 2.5 I almost blew up just trying to accelerate onto the highway it was that gutless. That one had no back seat but had one of those plastic trunk thingys to have a lockable space for a soft top wrangler. It was no way a daily driver with todays gas prices. The 4.0L one was great, had awesome power was very clean inside and out, had the least amount of miles that I had ever owned on a vehicle. It had a back seat, the seat was a little difficult to flip/fold down but daimlerchrysler made a fix for in 04 and newer models. Both were stock, and both had horrible gas mileage...I'm still getting better gas mileage out of my 91 MJ than either of them. another vote for a XJ as a good DD for you. as a side note, the 4.0L HO didn't get into the wrangler until the 93 model. terrawombat
as a side note, the 4.0L HO didn't get into the wrangler until the 93 model. 1991 was the first year of the 4.0L HO. And the ONLY year you could get the much cooler looking slanted roll bars and the 4.0L HO.

beepbeepmyredjeep
Guess I should have mentioned the reason I'm considering a Wrangler for a DD. My entire commute is spent on mountain roads. No highway driving at all. It's actually out of my way to take the highway to work. :clapping: I'm looking for something that can take the hills, bumps, and turns, and not bottom out. terrawombat
Sounds a little like my commute. Only 7 miles, but lots of hills and twisties and potholes everywhere. I'd take my XJ or MJ any day over the YJ. It would bounce me from side to side and was not very enjoyable. A TJ may be a bit nicer, though. 88pioneer
If I were buying a wrangler I would definitely go for a TJ. But I could never justify the cost of a TJ when an XJ can be had for so much cheaper. I like the ride of an XJ better a TJ also
Pete M
still would pick an XJ. 2" lift, 31s and go have fun. :D

beepbeepmyredjeep
Thanks for the advice guys. I think i'll be shooting for a 97+ XJ... If the engine ever blows, I can give my MJ a facelift.
