big66440 Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Does anyone know the resistance full/empty value of the factory fuel sending unit? I'm in the market for an aftermarket gauge and was wondering if one of you guys can help me out, thanks in advance.
jimoshel Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 What year? There are differences between Renix and HO and '91-'92.
big66440 Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 It's a short wheel base 89 Renix 4.0 automatic.
Dechion Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Well, It just so happens that I picked up a JY sending unit off a renix today for install tomorrow. (Hopefully it works, I would love to know how much gas I have) Assuming I remember when i'm out there working on it I can put a meter across it and check. Then again I won't be able to test it till Friday when the alternator get here. I know I am wanting to test both and compare them agains each other anyhow.
big66440 Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 Thank you very much for the help,I guess were on the same boat as far as knowing how much gas we have left on the tank
Eagle Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 The range for the Renix was 0 to 88 ohms. 0 = Empty, 88 = Full.
big66440 Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 do you guys think a 0/90 gauge will work ok or will the 2 ohms throw off the gauge too much?
Eagle Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Should be close IF the polarity is correct. Polarity is easy with an aftermarket gauge. If it reads backwards, switch the wires on the terminals.
Dechion Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 The range for the Renix was 0 to 88 ohms. 0 = Empty, 88 = Full. Do you recall offhand were to take the reading? I am thinking from the violet wire at the fuel pump connector to ground, right? (I still havn't been out there to work on the MJ, both the XJ and my wifes minivan needed my attention this week)
