Shandley
Greetings to all!! My baby is just about ready to roll.... however, it's been sitting so long that the front wheels won't spin freely. With some effort, I am able to spin them. I took off the tire and the brake caliper as well as the disc and tried to spin it. No go. So my next thought was bearings.... but wait a minute.... How.... w... my bearing "cap" is strange. It's not a cap at all. It looks inset with a couple tabs. How do you remove the cap that is there to replace the wheel bearings? Thanks! maddzz1
If it is 2wd I think you just replace the whole assembly. I think just the bearings can be replaced but you need a press or something and it is cheaper just to replace the whole assembly. Someone else should chime in and verify this. I'm not positive since mine is 4wd

Shandley
Well, there it is.... except, I was writing my first post from (a very poor) memory annnnd I believe it is the rear bearings I am trying to replace... not the front. I'm very sorry. Any ideas on the rear bearings?
89flat
you have to press the axle out of the bearing using a bearing seperater and a shop press
MiNi Beast
do you have a c-clip or non c-clip axle?

xjrev10
I'm curious on how it works too, being replace bearings, or assembly. I have 2 2wd MJs that are getting all new front end componets this summer..
MiNi Beast
http://www.nagca.com/grandtech/dana30wheelbearing.htm For 4-wheel drive  same principal applies to 2wd if just swapping out a new hub bearing assembling, just have no shaft to undo. xjrev10
so you can order a 2wd hub assembly? guess i could go look
Eagle
so you can order a 2wd hub assembly? guess i could go look  If the front axle uses the unitized hub/bearing assemblies, they are the same for 2WD and 4WD. But some years the front axles of 2WD vehicles got conventional front axle bearings. I don't remember which years were which, though.
