the manche
how much of the rear fenders can you cut out and if you cut to much will the bedsides flop in the wind?
mnkyboy
Why do you want to cut them? With SOA you will hit the frame before hitting the flairs unless you plan to run huge tires
the manche
the bed is very rusty around the flares I'm just running 33 inch xterains on diy beadlocks
mnkyboy
You shouldn't have any clearance issues with 33s. I haven't cut one so I don't know how far you can go but I don't think its much.

Eagle
The inner fender wells are welded to the outer skins JUST beyond the flange for the flares. The previous owner of my '88 MJ "trimmed" off the full width of the mounting flange, and about half the length on each side split into two parts -- the inner and outer. So he then "fixed" it with some really terrible booger welds to hold the outer quarter panel to the inner fenders. You really can't safely trim much more than taking off the flare mounting holes. I don't think trimming is necessary at all.
mnkyboy
Here you can see how much clearance you have.
lostissues
I cut out a lot, and it flops in the wind a lot also. I had a bunch of rust that I wanted gone and I put on TJ flairs so I had a bit of room to play with. it doesn't look that pretty but it did get rid of a lot of rust. Motion Offroad
Do the "cut and fold" method. (photos below show the process on an XJ, but it's identical on your MJ) You simply cut vertical slots in the fender to the body line, and fold them in. That way your not separating the 2 panels. Here is our MJ shown with the cut and fold method with a TJ flare. If you look close you can see that we didn't go back the body line when we mounted the flare. That's a 35" tire on a 6.5" lift (SOA).
btm24
How would you re mount a MJ flair If you cut? I'm looking to cut about an inch for rust removal and more flex. I was going to do the same to the front flairs. And thanks Motion for the idea of cutting I was just gonna go at it with a plasma cutter and a template. webbjeepxj
I did this on my wifes jeep ...... came out awesome and clears 31's (XJ). I'm sure it would help on the MJ. http://www.naxja.org/forum/attachment.p ... 1288319201
