well I'm tired of workin in a old garage with dirt floors and a leaky rook. got a quote today from an old family friend that works for a gargae company and without concrete work itll be around 17-18k for a 24x34, 18-19k for a 26x34. have to go look into concrete now and see what kind of deal i can make and who i know that does it

My last house I had a 22x22 attached, and 24x32 pole barn in the back yard. Now I have a gravel driveway :( After finding gravel frozen to my backside after replacing a starter last month, I decided I'm building.

Hoping to build a 24x40 pole barn, 12 foot ceilings, one 8x9 door and one 16x8 door for around $8K (materials only). Floor will have to come later. With a bit of luck I should be able to pull it off with my income tax return and a smallish (~$4k) personal loan.

Eventual plan is to have a 16 foot section partitioned off from the other 24 feet, two zone heated floor and a lift in the 16' section.

I just realized my garage will have a larger footprint than my (two story) house jamminz.gif

Nice :clapping: after a little more research i think I'm goin to do a metal kit garage. got another quote for a 24x36x10 metal kit with 16x8 door and 2 man doors for $9500 shipped, getting another quote for a 30x36. id have to do the slab and erect the shop but thats still better than the +18K from the other guy. still need to do more research, maybe go to Lowes and have them draw me up some plans and get a quote on lumber so i can find the best deal.

what are you doing for plans/prints or is your county not strict on that issue?

Prebuilt trusses, 8' on center gives me a load rating of 4 pounds per square foot on the the top cord with a 30 pound live load rating (snow), 5 pounds on the bottom cord. That's all I need for purlins with steel on top and purlins with drywall for my ceiling once I get to finish the inside. 2/12 pitch roof.

Those are details based on preliminary planning, though. The final build may change some. All that is for (almost) certain is 24x40 with 12' ceilings. I still need to do my taxes to see what I'm getting back, and then visit the credit union to see about a personal line of credit.

OUCH!!! My nephew built a metal 40x60 building including the slab for about $15K. Granted he/we plus a few other family members built it ourselves. (except for pouring the slab) It really wasn't that hard. Worst part was getting the c-purlin beams 18 feet into the air. Yeah, its tall. Top of the doors are 14 feet. Building it shorter would have been much easier.

I'm thinkin you need to shop around. It doesn't sound like your family friend is cutting that good of a deal.

he does custom garages and monalithic (i suck at spelling) slabs so that boosted the price alot. looks like pole buildings can use just a plain old slab and are poured after construcion. I'm not spendin 26k on a stinkin garage lol. i think 2morrow ill try finding my county planning/permit building and see what i can do for size, and if i need engineered prints and go from there

ever thinking of putting in a car lift? even if you can't now, it wouldn't hurt to be ready for it down the road. look into what it would cost to bump it up to a 14' ceiling, most lifts need that kind of clearance and you can get a new lift for $3000 installed if you shop around, so they're not really that expensive. less if you get a good used unit. then you would also need 6" think concrete floors...

ive had a few buddies try talkin me into that. ya a lift would be nice, but this is my first house and i don't plan on staying here forever. ill be happy with a plain ol' garage with a concrete floor and a roof that doesnt leak, plus the plan is to make it big enough to put my couches and tv in there when i update the house.
