Not to poop on your parade, but did they remember that the MJ/XJ flywheel isn't flat? It has a convex or concave shape to it that it needs to retain. I forget which... I've searched this forum and it appears that most don't have problems if they have it done. I'm plowing forward. If I have clutch issues, I'll know why. Woohoo! Now I should be able to get back to working on it from time to time. The tranny was holding me back as I needed help on that one. My son helped me. Dadinator Posted June 19, 2011 Author Share Posted June 19, 2011 Finally got to work on the truck again. The daughter got married at my house so the truck got put on hold for several weeks. Today, I bolted the cross member on the rest of the way and hooked up the front driveshaft. Had to change out the bracket that the transfer case linkage hooks to on the tranny tunnel. didn't realize that it was different for the 5 speed. So hooked the linkage up. Tried the rear driveshaft, but it is a bit too short. I'll have to have it lengthened. Put the crankshaft sensor on. Next, I'll hook the starter back up and the line between the clutch master and slave cyl. Slowly but surely... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dadinator Posted July 2, 2011 Author Share Posted July 2, 2011 Well, time for an update. I got the rest of the bolts in the transmission and crossmembers. I attached the starter. I had to lengthen the driveshaft as it was a bit short with the tranny change. Used the cherokee driveshaft for a section. Put new fluid in the tranny. drained the transfer case. Put some hydraulic fluid into the clutch master cylinder. Need to bleed it. Not today, though. Put the shifter on. Slowly coming together. I was going to put bucket seats and a console in it, but I'm reconsidering that. I may stick with the bench seat. Toying with the idea of putting a provision to put a wrangler seat in the bed from time to time with belts, etc. for when grandkids get a little bigger. Swapped the oil pressure sending unit from the doner so that the oil pressure guage is no longer pegged and now works properly. Makes me happy and now the project is getting exciting again. I remember when I fired mine up and moved it around after my 4wd swap and it was a great moment, and you're right. The exhaust sound with nothing hooked up is pretty menacing. I have heard about them being junk, but I've used them before with no issues. Anyway, today I got the 4wheel drive working. WoooHooo!!!!!! The CAD was defective so I locked it in as per instructions on this site. Looked over the electrical issues I'm having but no luck there yet. I think I'll put the exhaust system back on next. Dadinator Posted July 24, 2011 Author Share Posted July 24, 2011 Well as I said, the 4X4 is working again. Modified the CAD to get the axle locked as it should be. Today, I put on the exhaust system. Chopped the stock muffler off and installed the Flowmaster. Not as much rumble as I expected, but better than stock. It definitely sounds better than the straight header. :eek: Here are some pics... Dadinator Posted August 7, 2011 Author Share Posted August 7, 2011 Been troubleshooting the electrical issues and found most of it. The dash lights and parking lights were simply a fuse. The horn, blower, lighter, radio and wipers are the ignition switch. They work if I screw around with the key switch. The switch for those of you who don't know is mounted to the top of the column back towards the firewall. Just had to take the 2 nuts out of the mounting bracket to lower the column. Then had access to the switch. 2 small bolts and done. Now everything works except the turn signals. :clapping: Glad I looked over the old column before diving in. For 11 bucks, I just bought a new one instead of putting the one from the old column back in. What a difference... :clapping: Coming along. Also got the clutch pedal rubber pad replaced. Have a shifter inner boot on the way from Quadratec. Replaced a couple of vacuum lines, swapped the whole throttle body assembly from the donor. It didn't idle very well. I could have just swapped over the IAC, but was just as easy to swap the whole throttle body with everything attached to it. Put a new air filter in. Painted them with some rustoleum type paint I had around. Cleaned the carpet. Before: After: Cleaned the Seat. Before: After: Fixed the interior lights. Carpet looks a lot better, but it still has a lot of stains. Need to get some floor mats. That will make it look a lot better. Put in the console I scored from the JunkYard. Looks like a truck again. The turn signal switch just was funky so I cleaned it and they worked. I switched the blinker for the one from the donor because it was blinking really fast. It is normal now. Still have some suspension stuff or steering box issues in the front. Will address in the next couple of weeks. Good to get it on the road. Reattached the seatbelts. Here is a pic of the lower dash panel back on. :brows: Picked this up at the yard. Will install soon... Couple of pics of how it sits in the barn now.
