The hole for the track bar on the bracket on the frame is probably wobbled out. :headpop: Got some sway and I see movement. 87 4x2 MJ. Any fixes other than searching for an unwobbled out used one? If straight shank on track bar, drill and sleeve?

Since I will replace track bar also, I see Omix has an adjustable bar and bracket for 2 to 6 inch lifts to fix improper alignment. If anyone has used them, is there enough shortening adjustment on the track bar to work on a stock height rig?

Take 2 fender washers and weld 1 on each side of the bracket. Or remove a good bracket from a donor and weld it on. Just make sure you got everything 'lined up' before welding.

yep. Why I mentioned a used one. New not available. Figured since so many here are serious 4 wheelers, and that bracket is the same for 4x2 and 4x4 MJ and XJ, might be a good used one, or someone has a good fix. I wondered about drilling the hole and welding a sleeve IF the stud on the track bar frame end is straight and not beveled. Gonna bet beveled.

Your best bet is to convert to a trackbar that goes to a double sheer mount setup. It will eliminate any possibility of this happening than.

As I said, mine is a street only 4x2 with no lift and has 334,000 miles on the suspension and this is the first trouble I have had. All the tie rod ends are still fine. I don't see anything at Motion Offroad for stock height MJ's. Everything is for lifted rigs. So, tell me, will a bracket and track rod kit made for a 2 to 4 inch lift work on a stock height MJ with p225 70 R tires, which is same diameter as the original factory tire?

For a stock rig I would go with what Jim said Couple of the right size washers welded on each side of the wobbled out hole will fix it right up and cheap. If you want to go a little further go to a machine shop and have a hardend washer made and weld it on over top the wobbled hole.

Isn't this fix for the bracket on the axle? My problem is the bracket on the frame, not on the axle.

An elongated (wobbled) hole is a worn out hole, whether axle or frame. As long as the piece fits inside the mount you can weld repairs on the outside. If the piece fits on the outside, then make repairs to the inside.

A new OE frame track bar bracket is history as you know - not available. Your best bet is a low mileage replacement from a junkyard XJ (up to 2001 will fit) or repair your existing bracket as Jim and others mentioned. If you can not do it yourself, pull the bracket and bring it to a local welding shop. Should not cost too much. I would not spend $$ on an aftermarket track bar/bracket kit as it may or may not work on your unlifted rig. :cheers:
