a slight lean

Recommended Posts

okay so i lifted my MJ and now it has a lean to the drivers side about an inch difference from the pass. i thought it was just the front drooping but its the whole drivers side. do i need to adjust anything up front? the only thing i have adjusted is the track bar. could that be it or maybe the steering? the control arms not long enough? i mean i have no clue. this was my first lift and getting everything on there was fine, so i have no clue why it would lean. any thoughts, comments apperciated  thanks

I assume the lean appeared after you removed the #4 leaves from the spring packs. That is another possible disadvantage to removing leaves from springs, other than reducing ride height and losing carrying capacity. Our leaf springs are hand fitted and the arch is corrected at the assembly line, so removing leaves can have adverse effects. Since Comanches have the gas tank on the driver's side, they tend to lean a little that way anyways. You could switch sides, or just reinstall the missing leaves. You will need to install the #4 leaves on the springs that they were removed from, though.

hmmm. bummer. :fool: i never tried it with the bottom spring on. i just went for the four out right. wasnt it you though that said someone else was running the same as me, with the bottom load spring missing? did they have the same problem?

i didnt think about the gas tank thing. seems like it could contribute.

Yes, I did say that BLHTAZ was running 3 leaf springs instead of 4 leaf, but those were made as 3 leaf springs. They were the prototypes of our 3" lift springs, and I had run them on my Comanche for about 4 months before he got them, so they were already broken in.

I did notice on your build thread that you said the back of your truck sat level, so the rear springs may not be the problem. I just threw that out there as a possibility.

I assume that you bought your Comanche used (pre-owned). Did you check it for level before you started? Another possibility could be that your truck was not level to begin with -- again, just throwing that out as a possibility.

Measure from the center of each hub to the crease in the fenders directly above, and let me know what you come up with. Don't measure to the wheel well, because that could be off a little, and don't measure to the ground, since that may not be perfectly level, either. The crease that I'm referring to is the one where a paint stripe would normally go down the length of your truck.

i seriously doubt it could be the springs. I'm thinking it has to do with something up front. ill take it to the shop for an alignment and if it persists,,, i guess we'll start knocking stuff off the list. it was level before the lift. a lean like this you notice. and ill go get those measurements. i think they were like twenty eight and a quarter or so and twenty seven or so. something like that. ill hit it again though

My friend's nissan, my MJ, and a few other trucks I've seen have this problem. Run your gas tank down low, if it levels out a bit it is probably because the tank is on one side of the truck, in our case, the drivers side, towards your lean. I've noticed on lifted trucks its just easier to see the lean.

we had a member a while back who had a lean to the drivers side went to the extent of swapping all 4 springs right to left. the truck still had a lean to the drivers side. :shake: :dunno:

I don't think I posted on here about that, but I have that issue as well. The driver side is an inch lower than the passenger side. I swapped springs side to side and it stayed the same. I assume my frame is tweaked, but everything fits fine and it drives straight.

Tank in a comanche is 24 gallons, so an extra 160 lbs always weighing to that one side. The lean is never real major, just a little bit.

24 gallons? i thought that was only the longbeds? and the short beds were 18.5 gallons? sry to hijack
