-SHANE- Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 whats this I'm reading about pulling the intake from a 97 4.0 and bolting it right on mine? I'm going to the u pull wreckers tomorrow cuz its $50 all u can carry so I'm thinking maybe i should add this to my list ?
Geonovast Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 It's somewhat involved to get an HO intake to work on a Renix motor, and the intake ports won't quite line up right... so what you'd gain from the actual manifold, you'd probably lose at the gasket.
-SHANE- Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 ok no point in upgrading this old engine. i will just drop in a newer 4.0 engine & ax-15 transmission next summer. seems to be a popular upgrade from the ba-10 trans for wheeling
Geonovast Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 You don't need a newer 4.0 for the AX-15, you can put one in behind your current engine.
Bounty Hunter Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 The upgraded intake began in '99 and you don't gain a whole lot from it.
Geonovast Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 He has an 88, which is Renix. Renix manifolds are not the same as the 91-98 HO ones.
ratrapp Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 i swapped to a 93 ho head and the newer 99-up intake on my 88 and seen very little gain in power and no increased fuel economy.besides fixing an oil leaking headgasket it was a waste of time.
JeepinDev89 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 From what i've heard the newer intakes are only good for stroked motors. The whole more air more power thing.
-SHANE- Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 ok kool thanks guys . what about changing the 2port injectors for 4 port is that possible or worth doing on my old oil coated 335 km 4.0 ?
Oizarod115 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 ok kool thanks guys .what about changing the 2port injectors for 4 port is that possible or worth doing on my old oil coated 335 km 4.0 ? i've got a set of those for sale actually in the classifieds.
HOrnbrod Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 From what i've heard the newer intakes are only good for stroked motors. The whole more air more power thing. This is probably probably true; little gain will to be realized with the 99+ intake stock engine. However on the stroker I picked up about 12 HP with it on the Hesco dyno as well as slightly better gas mileage (1-2 MPG highway) which is always a good thing.
Bounty Hunter Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 He has an 88, which is Renix. Renix manifolds are not the same as the 91-98 HO ones. This I know, but he asked about upgrading to a '97 intake.
