Where to buy parts?

Recommended Posts

New to the comanche. My 15 year old son just bought a 1990 jeep comanche eliminator in remarkably good condition. Runs smooth and auto tranny shifts smooth as well. Just some surface rust, but no rust through areas noted yet. Need to pull up carpet, but floorboard feels solid. I cannot believe how good of shape this truck is in for being 20 years old. It has 197,000 miles, but previous owner (PO) has had jeeps "all his life" and has keep it in good shape. Many parts came along with truck as PO had yanked many things off of a cherokee a couple years ago at a junk yard just in case he needed them.

Anyway, we will be starting our "fixing it up project" and need good sources for parts. I know that many parts can be found in junk yards, but what about other sources? Are there online sites that have a good supply of aftermarket parts? Looking for a LH rear lense cover as the current one is broken.

We are looking forward to this project, and will be spending a lot of time here learning.

Thanks

There is NO source for tail lights other than Junkyards, or used ones for $300 on ebay. There are a few other MJ specific parts that that is also true for, such as the cab vents, the rear fender flares, the parking brake mechanism, and the seat tracks. If youre looking for stock parts, most any auto parts stores should be able to fix you up on common stuff, Crown is a good source for parts, but they only sell through dealers. Other than that, just search the internet to find what you need. Good luck with the new MJ and welcome to the club.

This is only half right.

Every time I, or a family member, are in a yard we check and pull MJ taillights to ebay. Our last set went for $45 plus $12 shipping.

The $300 set looks to be an anomoly, as all our sets go for at or just under $50/pair in any condition.

Do we make profit? Absolutely. However, we could care less as long as we get back what we paid for them. We feel its better for us to yank/ebay/profit by selling to someone in need rather than risk the lights going into the mouth of the crusher, taking a light that cannot be replaced otherwise.

Do you have any parts in mind that you need direction/sources? Almost any part from an XJ will cross over. Here is the short list of incompatibles:

rear window

tail lights

rear driveshaft

rear axle (same width, but SUA instead of SOA and perches 1/4 inboard)

rear flares

bucket seat brackets

floorpans

Almost anything else can be mix-n-matched from an XJ.

Thanks for the quick replies. The tail light was broken through and through but just wher the white part was for the backup light. The red is still intact, so at least it will be street legal, I think. :dunno:

Will have to look for another one in some local junk yards.

Found you a pair man. 30 bucks for each, well 35.

Of course that will end up being around 100 bucks. 35 for each one, so 70 there, then with shipping. Might be around 100 for both, but not too bad for just one.
