88pioneer
Well i decided to sell the 92 in search of something a little more highway friendly, as I am making a lot of trips to the VA/MD area in the next few months. Picked this up today, 89 eliminator, 4.0 2wd d35 5spd. Almost 190k on the clock, runs like and drives like a champ. Overall a real clean truck for living in north jersey its whole life. Plans for the time being are a few minor upgrades, and maybe a spray in liner. Once time an money permits, a mild lift, 31's, 97+ conversion (nose and doors), silver paint and black eliminator graphics. Enough of the yappin, here's some pics And the temporary group shot :( , wish i had money to keep both
DJM/78
Red Mj's must come in pairs ... Thats a clean truck for an 89" , I think the interior looks good enough to keep for a while .
88pioneer
the interior was definitely one of the reasons i bought it. those buckets are a major upgrade over the bench in the 92, o and tilt column
DJM/78
Nice seats help make the truck , one of the better upgrades on my truck . I couldn't stand the bench very long at all . :D
88pioneer
Got a little work done today. Washed a lot of the mud of the undercarriage, and found a lot of the factory undercoating still on the frame Also put on a set 97+ mirrors. It was a quick, simple upgrade. Much better than the old mirrors.
Pete M
so nice and clean... check under the carpets and keep it away from the salt.
88pioneer
haven't pulled the carpets yet, but from under they look solid
Pete M
that's a good sign, but isn't conclusive since they rot from the inside-out. :(
88pioneer
o yea, i know  , this weekend when i have time i'll pull it all out
88pioneer
Finally got it running again, starter relay went bad. Got it registered today. Tomorrow the exhaust gets fixed, sound system rewired, and put the dash back together. Then its time for some
88pioneer
well i think i started my project thread a little early. for now the 89 is acting as DD/beater until spring when it will come off the road, and the project will really begin
terrawombat
Truck looks good. Did you get rid of the '92?
Pete M
there's no way in hell I'd ever drive an MJ that clean in the winter time.
freakjeep93
get it undercoated before winter
Pete M
won't make a lick of difference. our trucks rot from the inside-out. the rust will start where the undercoating can't reach.
freakjeep93
i could probably help abit. but one winter shouldnt hurt it
Pete M
one winter showed me every ding and flaw on my 86 which was previously rust free, though pretty beat up (ex-farm truck from oklahoma). I don't mess around with salt. booooo salt! :fs1:
88pioneer
Salt pisses me off too, but its made it 21 years of NJ road salt, one more shouldn't do too much more damage, i'm slowly working on winterizing it anyway. Got a few little visuals done, painted the wheels metallic dark gray, and painted the tailgate letters. Also got a pic from when i did the exhaust. btm24
Very nice truck u got any big plans? and b4 i joined this web sight i never knew just how much salt on the roads up north can ruin cars and trucks. i feel very lucky to be a Florida boy. i feel so bad for yall up north
88pioneer
Plans for now are DD status, come spring i'll be buying a new truck, and the 89 will become the project. Initially it was going to be a small lift, and a few upgrades. Now i'm thinking D44 front and rear, long arms, locked front and rear and some meaty 35's. Who knows if that plan will stay, too many ideas in my dome :chillin:
88pioneer
Was a productive day, stripped the interior an POR 15'd the floor. Ran my cb wiring, and started working on installing my hitch. Still can't believe its lived in North Jersey its whole life  DS Before PS Before After
88pioneer
Looks like i'll get to do my 97+ conversion a little sooner. At least it still runs

88pioneer
Well made some good progress today. All the bad pieces are off minus the hood. Engine compartment is more or less straightened out, and radiator is out. Now just need to find a parts cherokee, an we'll be in buisness. Sorry no pics yet, worked into the dark
88pioneer
Getting closer to getting it back on the road. Picked up all the front end pieces, hood, fenders, bumper, header panel, an all the assorted little pieces for $120  . Got the fenders on an the bumper is sorta on. Put the header on to see what it will look like. Now just need to fix the cooling system.
