I found an 89,with a bad slave cylinder, its a 4cylinder,4 speed.Would that have the internal slave,or external. That is a major teardown transmission removal correct, might as well count on changing clutch also?

Thanks

Most likely internal, sorry! And yeah, while its out, do the clutch too.... can't hurt. For the slave though, spring for one from the dealership....should ne much better quality and shouldnt give any problems any time soon.

I thought all the Eliminators were 4.0's not 4-bangers. Am I wrong on that one?

Bot 4 banger?

I think he found an additional MJ... with a 2.5L.

No replies to e-mails for craigslist,so I don't know, may have meant to say 4 liter, would the 4cylinder be any easier to do slave than the six cylinder. Is the clutch and slave available from Jeep?

Posted

everything is commonly available... not sure on 4cyl that MIGHT be external slave (easy) but a 6cyl is DEFINITELY internal (not that bad.)

transmission in a jeep is really no big deal, first timer with the necessary tools could do it in a day

It will be internal. I just did one,

Same amount of work for a 2,5 as a 4L

The only "special" tool that was not already in my box was an 18mm socket that was needed for the trans bolts.

As far as the slave itself....i bought mine on ebay....$58.....it came out of California....the only advise i have is get one with a metal body not a plastic one.
