a few more questions

Recommended Posts

well on my 91 there is (i think) a vac leak that is stopping the 4wd from engageing. i am going to do the CAD trick as a temp fix but would like to find the leak sometime down the road. i also am only getting air to blow through the defrost vents no matter what setting it is turned to. so my main question is this, could the two leaks be related somehow? also with the CAD trick will the 4wd light come on once i engage it or not? also is there a way to tighten my sun visors, because they are loose and i don't have the center clips so they fall forward if i have them up. i will get pics in the morning to better show this since it is hard to explain.

Its probably one big vacuum leak. Start at the vacuum bottle behind the bumper and work your way out. Replacing the lines will make it eaiser to chase.

You just posted the two dead giveaways on this system for vacuum leaks.

Unscrew the sun visor. IIRC, you can get a washer in the bracket to tighten them up.

Does someone have a vaccum line diagram? I would think if they're related the problem would be upstream of where they're common. I have vents not work because of a total lack of vaccum, and I've had my vaccum plug pop off and I don't recall noticing vent issues while it was off, so I'm guessing that if they're related it's pretty high up.

Also I'm not sure I've ever heard any reason not to just permanently connect your axles with a hose clamp... aside from the ability to say "I've got this retro vaccum system working" is there any reason to restore it?

ok i thought it was on the xcase. i will have to try the washer thing on the visors once it warms up a bit, i am not ready to work on a truck in the cold right now. lol.

well that is the reason i am fixing it whenever i get the time down the road. just so i can rub it in all my friends faces who have electric 4x4 systems that cost 400 bucks just to replace the switch if it messes up. lol. jamminz.gif . plus with the other two MJs i have had i have restored them to the best i could with what little funds i had while i had them.

ok here is one more question. my passenger side headlight door is busted up bad, to the point that the holes for the screws that hold the corner marker in are no longer there. and the strip that was (most the time) chrome on older MJs above ther entire grille and headlights area is also busted. but since CDX changed the front a bit in 91 what years XJ can i look at for parts for this things grille? would the years i need be 91-96?

Know alot of guys who drive Cheby's with that junk electro-thermal system do you??

I will have to see if my 90 has the chrome piece. My parts XJ doesn't have it, and my MJ doesn't either, and the XJ I just parted didn't have it either.

well my dads old blazer was starting to act up, so he sold it. my stepdad is a chevy guy all around and his 00 silverado will go sometime i bet. my dad is a ford guy and his exploder has it and they are known to suck. so other then my MJ and K-10 everyone else i know with trucks has electro crap.

and i don't think the chrome strip from the 90 xj will work, but i could be wrong. the whole front end on this 91 is new to me since it is the newest vehicle i have ever owned.

ok here is what the corner looks like on my 91.

the strip that runs above the grille and headlights is connected to the grille and is one seperate peice around the headlight doors. where on the older MJs the strip was seperate from the grille and was one peice. could i put and older grille, older headlight doors, and trim peices on this thing instead of looking for 91 and up parts? i have an older grille and hedlight doors if that will work. then all i would have to find is the trim peices. or would i have to put a new front clip on to go older?

I thought they made the change in model year 1990, but whether it was '90 or '91, the entire header panel is different. I don't think you can use the old grille and headlight bezels on the new header, or vice versa. The grille itself will go in, but the old grille has no trim above it, and on the new style header panel there's no place to attach the separate trim strip.

well i am not sure what year the change was made. but it really does not matter all that much though. but i guess that i will do a header panel swap so i can use my old 10 slot chrome grille. i will have to see what header panels i got with this thing. i know i can put a newer 97+ header on it but will and older one work also, i don't see why not but i am not too sure.

This truck reminds me of a 3-in-1 model kit or something. You can choose which style you want to build it, cause there's enough parts to build 2 more trucks.

Sorry, I've got nothing helpful to say, but if you need a part, I'm going to the JY this week and can ship you something.

well i am looking for the triangles that go on the inside where the mirrors are. i need the ones that are for the manual remote mirrors. i am also looking for a driver side gray seatbelt, only the female side. mine no longer latches  . i also need the gray trim peices that go from the pillar where the cab lights are along the top of the doors down to the dash or there abouts. and i am search of the plastic peice that runs between the front flares under the bumper. also the gray center cap for the steering wheels with the "hex heads" on them. if you don't mind takin an IOU on those til i get some money back together from selling parts. or if anyone else can get those parts and don't mind an IOU or something. idk, being broke sucks but thats what you get when you own a jeep and you buy a new one in the same month as your girlfriends b-day. lol.

Hey how about a quik hijack.....

Is the gravity box full in your avatar picture????

yes. and if you go to my thread in the projects section for my 91 you will see an even bigger surprise. but only one is full. the other one was getting moved out to the combine then the full one was off to the elevator. the MJ was only being used to move them around the farm, i don't trust that it could handle it all the way to the elevator. i use the K-10 for that.
