jimoshel Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Just interested in what others use for patching and/or fabricating metal parts. I like to use roof tops cut from Ford station wagons and panels. Seems like it bends and welds better than other stuff I've used. Altho the door panels on '48-'53 chevy trucks worked good, but they're hard to find now. Curious minds want to know! :D
-600JeepMJ Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 I have a few old washing machines that I use for rust patches. the metal is just little bit heaver and welds very nicely
88SporTruck Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Please tell me your not hacking up these old classics just for sheet metal patches! Old appliances work if your on a budget but even virgin sheet metal is not really expensive at all
fiatslug87 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 What are these patch panels you speak of? Haven't heard of them in California. :rotf:
jimoshel Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 When your girl friends father, or hubby, discovers her 'condition' and comes after you. Patch up them bullet holes in the vehicle.
terrawombat Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I've been using 14 gauge steel to patch up my rusted out floors on one of my MJs. It's a little too thick to work with and I think I'll use 16 or 18 gauge when I do the floors on my other.
STERLING STINGER Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 When your girl friends father, or hubby, discovers her 'condition' and comes after you. Patch up them bullet holes in the vehicle. leave them in there.....
jimoshel Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 But that 'whistling' at highway speeds. :rotfl2:
