I have both... and prefer both. Renix is nice for a daily driver, as I've said before I was getting 26 mpg in my XJ before I put a different motor in.

 

But when I wanted to go out and just drive to drive, my HO was always good for that.

I've killed a renix, and I've built three 4.0's now...all with major success.

 

 

I couldn't kill an H.O. unless I sunk it...and even then, I doubt it'd do much harm if I shut it off quick enough.

Lower torque peak for wheeling, better fuel economy (although you have to keep the speed down for this) and simpler electronics.

I've (personally) seen on 4.0 seize. My family's owned 4 Renix 4.0s and 4 HO 4.0s. The only one to ever die was the newest one, a 98. We still haven't figured out why. It was a well-maintained motor.

 

Maybe he didn't abuse it enough? :dunno: I can't wait to open that motor up.

My money says broken piston.

Tho that usually doesn't = seizure.
