BORDENCOMANCHE
I am pulling out my hair here, comanche got me good. I bought it with the 2wd Ba 10/5 behind the I6 4L. Had some fun with it, but needed to get pulled out by my buddies Cherokee 9 times in one day. So I got a little mad. I went and bought a donor cherokee same year, same transmission and everything for 500 dollars. It was a steal considering I needed a new hood and doors and the works. Well here is my delimma, I chopped my transmission mount and need a new one, not the real issue, I can make one of those (but I would like the proper one, but just can't find one). My rear drive shaft!!! My new rear drive shaft length with SUA on a short box with a Ba10/5 and NP231. What is it supposed to be?? Oh another issue I have been having is that the transfer case keeps hitting the bottom of the cab floor while I raise it under the cross member, no worries there, I just cut the floor to match the T-Case and built a housing inside, to keep it water proofed. ISSUE: Can somebody with the same setup as mine please take a tape measure and measure their rear shaft length?? Ryan. P.s. I love you guys!!! BPB
Don't cut your floor! If you need to do some clearancing use a bfh. Show some pics of your clearance issues, I believe that the rear driveline length is the same between the ax15 and ba10 because I don't think that darren had to change after his transmission swap
BORDENCOMANCHE
Did I comprise the safety of my vehicle by cutting the floor? I'm not sure. But I do know the whole thing has to be replace anyways, its rotten as hell. But on the good side, I got new carpet and insulation from the side of the road :D some lady was doing a reno on her house, say hello to a semi-shag carpet!! LOL Pics will have to wait until monday, and I have no idea how long the shaft is on the ax15 setup.
Pete M
don't bother measuring the driveshaft on the Cherokee, it's about a foot too short. I wanna say it'll be 43", but I'm 730 miles from that truck at the moment so I can't measure for another week.
BORDENCOMANCHE
I measure yoke to yoke on the comanche with the 231 installed... came to about 40 inches, gonna try the new shaft today :D so excited, its the last piece of a Cherokee to Comanche Swap!!! FireFighter32
So Ax-15 with an np231 and a BA 10/5 with an np231 require the same drive shaft length? I am asking this because I am at the point in my 4.0 swap that I need to either find a new driveshaft or get my 2WD shaft cut. Just FYI I have a dana 35 rear axle, however I plan to swap in a Ford 8.8 or 29 Spline 8.25 in the near future.
Pete M
yes, the Peugeot and AX-15 are essentially the same length.
WBKrazy
:hijack: and yet another question: how long is the shaft for an 88 swb aw-4/np231?
BORDENCOMANCHE
Biggwheels see my post elsewhere.
Pete M
:hijack: and yet another question: how long is the shaft for an 88 swb aw-4/np231? The AW-4 is approximately 1" longer than the AX-15/peugeot so the driveshaft will be 1" shorter.

comanche09
So Ax-15 with an np231 and a BA 10/5 with an np231 require the same drive shaft length? I am asking this because I am at the point in my 4.0 swap that I need to either find a new driveshaft or get my 2WD shaft cut. Me too! :brows: I also currently have the D35. Got a D44 sitting in the garage, but it is an open diff. I can get a '98 8.25 with Trak-Loc LSD. I know that the 8.25 would be -1" vs D35. What about D44? Help! Pete M
I think the 44 snout is an inch longer than the 35. being 700+ miles from my MJs makes it hard to check. :(
comanche09
I think the 44 snout is an inch longer than the 35. Thanks, makes it basically the same dimension 8.25 vs D35. So D44 to 8.25 would not require driveshaft length change. Please let us know about the DS length whenever you return to the MJ's Thanks
64 Cheyenne
So when measuring for the new shaft, how much allowance should be given to slide into the output shaft?
