This is a very similar Idea as I have for my Next MJ project...

However I do not want a 4 door MJ I will be using 2 door XJ doors and make a Cab and a half with the 6 foot box all on a Mint Long box MJ platform and a V8...

I look forward to your build page and If i get to mine I will start one aswell...

Good luck

For the engine I'd go with a Magnum 5.2 or 5.9. I've heard nothing but terrible things about the WJ 4.7 V8s. Except for the HO version, I do know the 4.7 HO owners love em and there's a never ending debate of which is faster, the 4.7 HO WJ or a 5.9 ZJ. But I've never seen a 4.7 with more that 120K, except in the JY with a seized engine. I'm sure they exist - somewhere. Of course, I own two 5.9s and I'm kinda partial to em.

Other thoughts:

I think you'll have to go with a Cherokee gas tank since you'll be shortening the front part of the bed.

When you move the back of the cab rearward, I guess you'd have to box the top of that portion of the frame rail or take other measures to strengthen the frame. I read through the Onyx build thread numerous times, so I'm sure you're way ahead of me there. Well within your abilities,,,You can do it, no doubt.

I have a 04 WJ with a non HO 4.7, it is a great little motor. I have beat that thing like a rented mule and she has never given me a problem. I think it is as good or better than a 318 or 360. Not as thirsty either. It will all come down to which donor I get my hands on first. ZJ or WJ. I do like a 360 though...

19 Gallon TJ tank at the very rear of the bed or in the stock location.

I am not cutting my truck in half. That is unsafe and illeagle as hell. I will be transplanting the XJ floor into my truck. I hope it all goes as planned. If not I can easily make my money back off the parts on the MJ and XJ donor. I am into for $500 for both at this point.

Thanks for the kudos brother. Your truck is one of my favorites on here. I have even used it as a photo chop project idea for this build. You have the height and width I am shooting for on the Betty build.

You've seen this thread I guess?

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1041059

Some details about the roof treatment worth thinking about in there. Not sure what they are on about with the rear door glass shape... appears to "recycle" normal 4 door front doors so I don't get it.

I have seen it. I do not condone his actions. I think he ruined two perfectly good vehicles. It is unsafe to cut a uni-body car in half and weld them back together. But, that is just my thinking.

You will need take the rear portion of a front door and the front portion of a rear door and weld them together and re-skin them. That will give you the correct lines around the window frame and the bottom of the door can now be full instead of have a wheel arch cut in it. There are a few way you can go about the door issue. This is just one of them.

Oh yeah, I don't mean cutting the unibody all the way through. I'm trying to picture how it could be done while leaving the the frame rails intact. I envision you could "lift" the back of the cab off the rails, move it rearward, weld in floor panel patches, add the custom doors and everything remains straight and comparably just as strong as it was. Would be refreshing to see a quality dual cab Manche and I learn a lot on the build pages here so I'll be subscribed to your build fo sho!

i cut mine out completly, floor everything. cab held its shape with only 2 braces. as for the rear windows, why not use 96 down front door glass for a rear glass?

DING, DING, DING!!!

We have a winner Bob! I will be using the 96 down XJ glass.

I just had a SWB bed donated to the cause as well. I am going to flip my rear springs, set the axle back 1" in the perches, and extend the rear of the frame 5". This should give me 11" of wheel base.
