johnnybebad
thanks ! Â they are the stock front coils from the MJ.I used 5 inch inside diameter pipe for coil buckets. arms are made from schedule 80 1.5 . i wanted to use bushings at one end and heims on the other, so i took a set of front lower control arms, hacked them in half, and welded them to the pipe. I figure this way when the bushings wear out I can just press in new jeep bushings. still need to make some adjustments and finish putting gussets on the arm mounts, but you get the idea. beaterjeep
You now have my attention. I'm looking into what it takes to 4 link the rear on Baby, so I'll be watching this build closely for inspiration.

CWLONGSHOT
Â If you don't mind the critique... You really need to gusset those tab mounts and maybe capture the nuts to make it easier while your at it.. There will be allot of force on them and but welds won't cut it for long. Â Looks good. johnnybebad
need to mount my edelbrok IAS shocks tomorrow , then the rear should be finished up. rollcage tubing is on its way, should start bending it up this week !!! Â these are my halfbreed control arms. going to try them for a season and if they twist , i`ll make them from square tube next time. still need to finish them off with a middle brace but you get the idea. lowers measure 38 inches eye to eye, and the uppers ( not shown ) are at 26.5 . johnnybebad
haven`t had much time to work on the truck lately, but i did manage to get the cage bent and welded in, floors are all repaired, and the Dana 44 is now fozzy locked, pics tomorrow ! johnnybebad
still need to weld in a dash bar and door bars going to the back of the cab but you get the idea.I tied the cage into the arm mounts to give them a little more strength, still need to plate them on the back sides, and there will be a 1/4 inch plate from the second crossmember to the first which will double as my battery box location.I am removing the headboard from the box and cutting out a portion of the bed so I will have access to the control arms and shocks from the top of the box . the fuel cell is going to be mounted on the remaining portion of the bed, and the headboard is going to be bolted back in with brackets and should fit between the cab and the cage perfect. Â welding in brackets for the racing seats and harnesses tomorrow !! Edited March 22, 2014 by johnnybebad
johnnybebad
got the box on today for the last time ( i hope ;) ) . Had to fab up some new mounts so i could bolt the box down in the front, also did some reinforcing underneath. still need to weld some tabs on the headboard and bolt it back in, then it`s time for bodywork...... johnnybebad
My father had an old ford cube van that he kept the box from for a wood storage shed, and these fibreglass pieces were taken off of it, which got me to thinking...............also had enough left over to make a rollpan, but the bondo is still drying on that lol Edited March 22, 2014 by johnnybebad

johnnybebad
 Looking good. thanks for posting the pictures for us to drool on   lol thanks. although i`m not into this thing for a lot of money, its shaping up quite well.  I paid $300 for the truck, sold the factory rims, interior, and the AX-15 and paid for the truck. rollcage tubing was just under $200, and the rest is pretty much scrap metal. the floor is made from the doors on an old refridgerator, the rear control arms are made up of pipes from an old industrial condenser , the bracing I did under the box was made from an old weight lifting bench and two steel bed rails :rotf: and the rest is from a pile of scraps thrown out of the local shipyard. no plasma, no chopsaw,no joint-jigger, just a Lincoln 100, a grinder ....oh and about 500 zipcuts lol
89 solider mj
Hey bad @$$ looking build up i would love to get into that kind of racing...but i was wondring if that picture of your tube bender is what u used for the cage and other round tubing? i just wanted to know what size diamiter and wall thickness you can bend with this? cause i am wanting to make a few bent tubes for various parts just wondering how it works and what you can all use it for? but nice build!...ill be watching very closely
johnnybebad
it`s a cheap 12 ton bender, has dies for up to 2 inch pipe. the pipe i used was .100 wall thickness , bent it alright but it would kink if you tried to get anything close to a 90 out of it. the thicker the pipe the better with these benders. 89 solider mj
Alright thanks alot because I'm wantin to make a few things for my comanche to protect it on trail...do you know what brand it is by any chance?
johnnybebad
it is a Power Fist. cheap brand, I got it on sale for $130. does the trick pretty good, you just need to make your 90`s with two bends instead of one
89 solider mj
thank you very much n your comanche looks great! i love the 4 link in the rear...looks sweet did you use just front springs in the rear?
