88elimnator Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Does anyone know how many quarts an AW4 trans takes I just put it back in after doing an engine swap and it won't do anything, I've already put 5 quarts in it. Thanks
Geonovast Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Did you remember to bolt the converter to the flexplate?
88elimnator Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 yes its in there the way it came out and it worked when it came out
Geonovast Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 So you didn't let any fluid out of the tranny at all? Did you leave the converter in the bellhousing, or did you pull it out with the motor?
88elimnator Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 I pulled it out with the motor drained all the old fluid put 5 quarts of new fluid in and it don't even try to go into gear
dasbulliwagen Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Are you seeing fluid on the dipstick? If not keep adding 1 quart at a time till you do.... if thats the problem. All your electrical connections together? , Shift cable hooked up? Driveshafts in?
88elimnator Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 yea theres fluid on the dip stick, and everything is hooked up. I just can't figure out what happend.
Geonovast Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Did you fill the converter back up before putting it on?
dasbulliwagen Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 If you didnt refill the converter before reinstall, start the truck, let it run in neutral and keep rechecking the fluid level, and add if needed.
88elimnator Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 no I didnt refill the converter I'll try leting it run in neutral for awhile. thanks
aemsee Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Did you install the converter in the trans and install, or bolt it to the flexplate first then install trans?
whowey Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Nice Chart! It should be.... its copywritten content. It's from a service manual. The poster hot linked it here from his website and added his website tag to it.
