Hi all, I just recieved the book entitled "High Performance Jeep Cherokee XJ Builders Guide". Pete M's rig is featured inside. Kudos Pete. Anyway, I'd like to know where the Dana 44 front came from?

78 f-150. if you don't intend on using the ford radius arms, look for 77 and earlier F-150s. 78-79 had the radius arm wedges cast in, 77 and earlier are welded on.

or look into 3/4 ton fords of that era. they had a 44 front and a 60 rear. the fronts were under leaf springs so they should be easy to clean up for new brackets.

Plus too narrow and differential housing on the wrong side.

Can the newer Rubicon Dana 44's be modified to fit our MJ's?

Yeah but they have some known issues already in regards to the housings bending.

My buddy's Rubi is in the shop getting BOTH of the housing swapped out right now ;)

They are also the newer 5 x 5 bolt pattern.

I just saw in the mopar performance book that they are selling a JK front 44 modified to fit a TJ , with a 5 on 4.5....
