this guy is on another forum I'm on...may have been on here even.

I don't think he did a chop'n'weld conversion...pretty much positive that it's a simple front end conversion and bed bob with a nice lift, in which case the chassis hasn't been fubar'd and the whole vehicle is worth what he is asking for it.

back half of the cab and bed came from a 88 long bed comanche.

Sounds like a cut'n'weld

what, do you think I can't read?

I'm telling you that I've seen it before, and I'm pretty sure that that is NOT the case. I'll dig up his sale thread I believe it's on naxja...but I'm almost positive that this is NOT a cut and weld.

I don't guarantee that, but I am saying that this may be an ill-thought explanation by the owner of what the 97+ conversion actually is.

good day.

Got to go with JeepcoMJ on this. If you were going to cut and weld on an MJ rear to your 99 XJ you would add a little on to it to give some more space. Something would look a LITTLE different :hmm: Why go to all the work just to have an standard MJ :hmm: Yes with changing out the front body items and the dash I would say that the front 1/2 is a XJ and the back 1/2 is a MJ if I was going to sale it. Did anyone one ask him if it was a cut and weld???

When soneone asks about our MJ I tell them it's a 92.5 Mutt Jeep With all the parts in it from 86 to 98 the average comes out to 92.5. And it has more XJ parts in it then MJ parts  Well as I think about it it has more Explorer parts in it then MJ parts :hmm:

Look at the angle shots. Seems to be a definite break in the body line between cab and bed.

well....the bed has been bobbed, and most likely would have been off if he had any comprehension of doing it properly (which I'm sure he does). he probably forgot to put the spacers between the mounts and bed when he reinstalled.

I'd have to say it's just a full 97+ bolt on conversion with the bed bob. The bed body lines do appear to slope down from front to back but you have to remember that he started out with a long bed. To bob the bed, he had to hack some of the rear frame. The doors look a little off as well but again, they are from the 99 and may just not be aligned well to the MJ cab.

All in all not bad but damn, it made my head hurt reading his write up.

We have seen other "conversions" where people simple cut the front from a newer XJ and welded it to an MJ.

One more piece showing support of the cutnweld is the drivers side fender support. It has a hole meant for the 97+ washer tank. This would be present on the body of the 97+ jeeps.

Now if the comanche has previously been wrecked and the fender support replaced, and then the engine bay/support repainted, it could have been replaced with a 97+ support, so while its not 100% conclusive it looks like a cutnweld job to me.

Good eye.

I tried to see if anything on the back firewall would tell but the only thing I can speculate is that the hood cowl gasket doesn't look to be the thicker one found in the 99.

I guess we'll know when the email is answered.

A personal inspection or some detailed photos would tell yes, but the provided photo just isn't detailed enough.

Well I am waiting for him to get back to me and clear up a couple things, but he stated just the front clip and the firewall was from the XJ as the firewall was different??

So he cut the XJ boday at the firewall?

No, he would have taken more than that, this way he kept the dash and everything complete from the XJ.
