Windowsrookie
Part stores are listing 1 3/4" pads and 2.5" pads for the rear. Anybody know what would be on a D35 1989 Comanche?
Wildman
For a D35, you need the 1-3/4" X 9 Shoes. The 2-1/2" are for a D44......if your lucky enough to have one  Also.....here's a little DIY on the rear brakes...... http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Sus ... ervice.htm Note the location of the shoes, one is longer surfaced (rear) that the other. Windowsrookie
I guess while I'm on the subject I'll ask. My rear drums lock up with the slightest of pressure when coming to a stop. Do they just need to be adjusted, or are the drums shot? about a motnh ago the drums were off and there was still a lot of pad left. Thanks.
jpdocdave
yes, out of adjustment shoes will cause the drums to lock up. could be just that. you want to adjust them up till theres a little drag on the drum.
Pete M
Are you still using your rear proportioning valve? (the funky looking thing under the bed with the swing arm that should be connected to the axle)

My 87 MJ with D35 has 1 3/4x10 brakes. My 94 XJ with 8.25" has 1 3/4x10 brakes My buddy's 91 XJ with D35 has 2 1/2x9 brakes.

Correct, everything I have seen and herd says XJ's got the 9" rear brakes, the MJ got the 10's. BUT, just remember, this IS A JEEP and anything is possible. The D44 got the 10" wider 2"+ wide brake pads/drums. CW

The 10 x 1-3/4 were GENERALLY used with the D35, and the 10 x 2-1/2 were GENERALLY used with the D44. However, there have been isolated reports of D35s with 10 x 2-1/2" brakes and D44s with 10 x 1-3/4" brakes. The 9 x 2-1/2" rear brakes were never used by AMC. That was one of Chrysler's "improvements."
