Whamm
Alright I'm stumped. My brake lights where working a day ago. Now today on the way home Henry County's finest decided that i needed to know that i didn't have brake lights. Ok so when i made home I checked the fuses all good. Then I searched the forums for brake light problems. This is what i came up with from the search. :D 1. Check fuses.- All Good 2. Check ground behind driver tail light- Cleaned and Good 3. Check brake switch at pedal- One hot one not pedal not pressed, 2 hot when pressed. Oh yeah , the hazards, parking lights and blinkers work. I'm sure i missed something, just not sure what it is. Thanks in advance.

Whamm
Bad bulb?? Did you check the bulbs and sockets? It may be the bulbs but what are the odds that all went out at the same time :dunno: . I have a few spare blubs laying around i will give it a try tomorrow.

ocskipper
I am experiencing a very similar problem. My brake light fuse blows out after only about a day or two though. I replace the fuse and they work for a while, and then the fuse blos out again. I checked the ground and it is fine...I think it may be a bad socket or something. I hate electrical and fuses are cheap! ;) Another weird one I have is my left turn signal. The indicator on my gauge cluster stays green all the time when my headlights are on. The blinker still works and even blinks on the dash when activated but stays on even after i turn it off....any ideas? -Skip
64 Cheyenne
Every single 2057 bulb on my truck twisted apart when I tried to clean the socket. I was dealing with similar issues. As for the turn indicator, mine was the r/side but did the same thing. The other thing that was going on with my truck was that the dash lights wouldn't come on till I turned the headlight switch to the interior lights position. When I changed the headlight switch the problems went away. I also inspected the front turn signal sockets, replaced them with ones out of my donor XJ. The ones in our MJ's are notorious for corrosion and failure. Check out my thread, it shows how I fixed all these issues. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13953
Whamm
All right I found the problems. The wire that came of the brake light switch at the pedal up to the Turn Hazard Switch Assembly had pulled lose at assembly. Replaced wire all good now. Oh BTW thanks for info JT, i have the cleanest bulb sockets in GA, which cleared up the ghosting on the dash.

Note that the fuse feeds the hazard flasher to the brake switch, then to the connector behind the left kick panel, to feed the rear lights. Its odd that your hazards will work, and not the stop lights :hmm: Try switching the flashers and see if that solves the problem, if is does, replace the flasher with a new HD flasher unit. Other wise, you did check all the right things.......so far. Your turns will work because there feed separately thru the turn signal flasher. I guest you fixed this, as I was typing the above........oh well......I'll leave it here :D

With your left turn single indicator staying on in the dash, is a sure sign of a burn out bulb or a bad lamp socket, and with the head light switch on, and the indicator staying on, I'll bet you have a bad left front turn socket. The lamp is both turn and parking lamp. If you get to the parts store, look in the Help section for a Ford socket, that's the closest one available for the MJ's. I think JT just change his out a few weeks ago, and there is a write up some where on which wire to match up. But...... all Black wires are grounds. Parking lamps are dark blue Left turn is Gray Right turn is Brown All wires are 18 ga. And don't for get the dielectric grease in the new sockets, with new lamps :brows:
cherokee
Actually, the left turn is gray (or silver, take your pick) with a black tracer.

I forget  Didn't you just find some replacement sockets??? If you did.........What did you find......like part number/make???
cherokee
For the front turn signal/parking light? Yeah, but I don't have my notes with the part # right now. It also changes the bulb type to the blade style. It was a perfect fit with no modification needed for the socket, unlike the rear.
Redramman
Whamm sounds like you fixed it (wire from brake switch to turn or flasher switch)I knew it was not bulbs if hazards work! SKIP (can spell C...) I'd say ground wire to box or some rear bulb socket ground might be the problem with your truck.
Whamm
[quote="Redramman"Whamm sounds like you fixed it (wire from brake switch to turn or flasher switch)I knew it was not bulbs if hazards work! quote] It was the brake switch to brake hazard aseembly wire (blue/black wire). Yeah this was probably my fault as i recieved a phone call from the wife saying that the ambulance was taking her to the hospital. I drove like crazy and when I exited my truck i think i pulled it lose.
