dakal Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 would somebody take a pic of a 91 or newer thermostat housing? i want to see the difference with a renix. thanks
dakal Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 can i install this housing on a renix engine? where is the heater hose you can't see going to? :dunno:
Geonovast Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Yes you should be able to install it on a Renix head. What heater hose? There's only the two, and they're the same as a Renix one. The third thing you see is a temp sender for the ECU.
dakal Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 i don't see the second one. but, if its the same that answers my ? :dunno:
dakal Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 i see the top radiator hose thingie and one heater hose thingie, where is the second heater hose thingie.
Geonovast Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 No, there's only one for the heater. can i install this housing on a renix engine? where is the heater hose you can't see going to? :dunno: What are you talking about in there? ^ I'm a little lost here.
Comanche County Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 The third heater hose goes to the water pump, not the thermo housing. I replaced my housing when replacing the WP and Thermo, broke the housing by torquing it too hard,,,:wrench:,,,that metal is fragile.
dakal Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 should of looked. asked the question at night. the second hose goes to the water pump. i'm going to shorten the pipe from the water pump. thanks again
BLHTAZ Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I used the H.O. housing on my Renix so I could have a place to put the switch for the electric fan.
Comanche County Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I used the H.O. housing on my Renix so I could have a place to put the switch for the electric fan. :hijack: Did you run that to a relay to activate the fan? How does it recognize the right temp to turn the fan on? Just asking cause I think that's a good idea,,,I might do the same!
BLHTAZ Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 It is simply a switch that is run through an adjustable thermostatic control mounted on the left fender above the ballast resistor. The control that I got is not the greatest quality, and I would not use the same one agian, but Iwas in a hurry to get it done and grabbed one. It turns on a little too early and I have it adjusted as far up as I can. Look in to Spal contollers in you are going to do this.
RLCollins Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Nice job. Is there a reason why you used an adjustable thermostat?? It seems all I need is a fixed temperture thermostat switch (On/Off) to screw into the thermostat housing. In my old system it was in the radiator (Closed System). I am not worried about the ECU, that sensor is on the drivers side of the engine block. The new open system does not have a thread hole for the Radiator temperature switch AKA auxiliary fan thermal switch AKA electric cooling fan thernal switch. I just need something to turn the fan on and off when it is to hot. :hmm: I am a little behind, could someone explain Renix to me. How can I tell which system is in my 1989 MJ 4.0 MPI I-6? :dunno:
Eagle Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I am a little behind, could someone explain Renix to me. How can I tell which system is in my 1989 MJ 4.0 MPI I-6? :dunno: American Motors owned Jeep when the XJ (and MJ) was designed. Renault was a major partner of AMC. The design of the ignition and injection system was a joint venture of Renault and Bendix of Europe. RENault + bendIX = RENIX. The Renix system was used on the 4.0L engine from 1987 through 1990, and on the 4-cylinder engine from 1986 through 1990.
