-don't know, but sockets and snap ring pliers are on the list

-Nope, the HO is a 4.0L

-If properly taken care of, 200k+ miles is quite common. Accidents, rust, and misuse are the big killers of MJ/XJs

Auto or manual? I wouldn't touch an auto with a 10 foot pole unless I knew what I was doing. As for a manual. you will need a press to get the gear sets on the main shaft off. The cluster shaft should be a solid one piece unit.

Mostly true... more specifically, you need the press to get the gears back on. A gear puller will get them off.

As for the cluster shaft, it is mostly a one piece, the 5th gear stuff will be separate, as the collar/synchro setup is on the layshaft. I'm basing this off of the AX-5, AX-15 should be practically identical, can't vouch for the BA 10/5 though.

kmack, you are going to need basic sockets, snap ring pliars, possibly some torx stuff, and a very light touch when putting it back together. If you're referring to rebuilding a BA 10/5, your money is better spent throwing it out and upgrading to the AX-15.

:agree: Money should never be spent on a Peugeot beyond new gear oil.

I'm currently rolling (grinding) with an ax 15 i suppose.

What year is your truck? 87-mid 89 will have the Pukey BA 10/5, and mid 89-92 will have an AX-15. Provided it's the stock trans.

howcome there is a clutch assembly listed for a 4.2l comanche?

Because the parts stores/catalogs usually don't know what they're talking about.

  • 2 weeks later...

mines a peugeot with the two peices bolted together. :fs1:

so if this tranny dies. what other damage will it do to my truck? because i might as well just wait for that to happen and then find an ax 15 down the path.
