james750
:wall: :wall: I am trying to take the fill plug off of my tcase and that thing is torqued down to an unbelievable level. I suspect the last guy to work on it put it on with an impact. anyone have any suggestions on how to get it out. The trucks at home right now, I want to go pick up a 6pt socket tonight to try and coax it out of there, what size do I need, I know I should have checked when I was at home, but I realized this afternoon that the 12 pt is just not gonna do it. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:
brdhntr
try some heat on it. also try to tighten it a bit to get it broke loose than loosen it. if it's really on there, you may need the impact. if you don't have one, take it to a muffler or lube shop and have them loosen it and put it back in at a reasonable torque that you'll be able to get off when you get home. i say a muffler shop or lube shop as they will usually do it cheap and you can get it in right away. take it to a shop and you get the shop rate with a minimum charge and a line of cars in front of you. or you could spend the money on gas and drive it to me and i'd be happy to zip it off for you. then save for a good compressor and air tools. juan
my np231 in my xj as well as yj and mj all use the same plug which is a 30mm. I have a 12 point napa socket that works really good. good luck.
dasbulliwagen
1 AND 3/16 INCH fits on the one I have sitting here out of an 86 MJ!
mvusse
1 3/16 may fit, but it is a metric 30mm bolt head. It probably has loc-tite on the threads, so a little heat is your friend.

I drove it around after I got home to heat it up, soaked it in PB blaster, and then used a 1-3/16ths socket on a ratchet. It wouldn't budge. So I tried it on an air ratchet, and still no go. So I got my impact gun out and it came right off. :fs1: There wasn't any loctite on the threads so I have no clue what the noise I am hearing in the drive line past the tranny. Its probably my D35 starting to bite the dust since the d30 has only been on for 1 day and it was making the noise before the swap, hopefully the 8.25 with SOA will go on in the next couple weeks. :brows:
Falder
So I tried it on an air ratchet, and still no go. Why? Air ratchets are only for quickly running bolts/nuts in/out. Not breaking things loose nor tightening, unless you mean you put the air ratchet on and pulled against it(like you would with proper use), which makes no sense cause you could have used a normal ratchet/breaker bar.
