I'm assuming this is a 4.0L wrangler...

 

Bad news: Last year for the AX-15 was 99. :(

 

Good news: that Jeep should have the NV3550, which is even stronger :D

 

Even better News: Yes, it'll go into your Jeep with pretty much the same amount of work as the wrangler AX-15 :thumbsup:

I absolutely love the NV3550 in my Rubicon. A whole lot smoother than the AX15 that was in my YJ.

 

Beware of the 2000 NV3550. We had a 2000 TJ and that transmission liked to pop out of first gear regularly. Not a whole lot of fun when crossing 4 lanes of fast moving traffic. IIRC there was a TSB or the like about it. I have never had that issue with the NV3550 in my Rubicon :D

I have a 2000 XJ with the NV3550 and I have no problems with it popping out of gear. But mine was made right at the end of 2000 model year production. The problem may have been early in the model year.

My sister had a 2000 TJ and never had an issue with that. :thumbsup:

 

I'd thought XJs got a slightly different version than the TJs? Something about courser cut gears in the TJ?

I had a pukey with the same problem. Just leave your hand on the shifter holding it forward and it's not even noticable.
