ejndssn
in the last pix if you rub your finger on the edge you should feel the knub... at first it was a pain in the arse... but once the loaded spring has sprung you know you have it then adjust to the right tick mark good luck
johnnyc
I don't know if I'm understanding the question entirely... But there are no marks on the t-case. As long as the fork on the retaining clip is in the proper notch, then it is clocked correctly.

As long as the fork on the retaining clip is in the proper notch, then it is clocked correctly. the Fork will go on in multiple places... I have no clue which way the Tooth indicator mark should be pointed... i've now got 3 different responses and none of them sound like what I'm looking at... JeepcoMJ
take the part that says "such numbers encompassing 37" (i.e. 32-38, 35-42, whatever it says) and align it to the BOTTOM clip on the retaining clip. this retaining clip will sit directly into the notch centered at the "such numbers encompassing 37" part and also seat in the notch 180 degrees from that notch. Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. :D The retaining clip will only go on one way. Before you tighten the bolt all the way, make sure the bottom part of the clip is in the correct notch. Done. -edit- In that last pic you posted, it looks like it's set correctly.
ejndssn
your last image looks like it is lined up with the notch in the speedo gear and that other mark on the tc which looks like dirt :brows: mine had that same mark on the tc. there should have been a noise when inserted like a spring that has sprung

ejndssn
you will know if it made contact no reading... once you take it for a spin you will get the bounce as stated by jeepdoggy or nothing which i got nothing on the first attempt :brows: :fs1: then i heard the noise and got the bouncing speed reading made the adjustment as referenced by jeepdoggy all is good  good luck
jeepdoggydogB
SW, That pic looks like mine I would say it is lined up, but if you get nothing or the bouncing speedo do what ejndssn said. Believe me, you aren't the only one that had a hard time with this, 3 adjustments and test drives spanning a week I finally got it working. :ack: Let us know how the 4.11's are working out for you
SuperWade2
Let us know how the 4.11's are working out for you  Well, on the road, around town, first gear is basically useless... I mean I have to shift before I get to like 10 mph... I can "start" in second gear and it feels basically like my 1st gear did before the regear... I still have pedal to spare in 5th gear going uphill at 65-70mph... I expect I will blow up my engine faster now that I feel like I have a little more power... Thanks for all your help with the speedo gear... I got "rug-rat" duty, so didn't take it out of the garage this evening after messing with it

I think you need to clock it counter-clockwise until the metal retaining tab pops into that notch. they are supposed to set in the notches. SuperWade2
WOO HOO! Just went for a spin around the block... I have speedo again.. a BIG thanks to everyone that helped and put up with my continuous barrage of questions... It's not even the first Speedo Gear I've replaced... my TJ was MUCH more straight forward, and I think there was a mark on the T-Case that made the alignment "dummy proof", although this dummy, maybe not so much... I need to GPS to see how close it is, but I expect within a MPH or 2... On a side note, with the 4.10's, First Gear hits 2500RPM at right at 15mph...so depending on what RPM I shift at, somewhere between 12-16 mph before I shift to 2nd... Maybe this thread will be useful to someone else down the road (thus why I like to post as many pics as possible...
