Have you ever done something so dumb afterwards you said, "that was dumb"

Point and case,

Today while hacking up the parts truck, I was laying on my back, underneath the passenger side using the saws all. The blade got pinched and kicked back and as luck would have it, my small finger was mashed between the concrete and the saw handle. The saw stopped and I thought, that kind of hurt, then repositioned myself to continue. Sooo... to eliminate that from happening again, I place the butt of the handle, with my hand again on the backside, firmly on the concrete so that it couldn't buck back. You can see where this is going. I pulled the trigger and the saw commenced to smashing my little finger to death. With the natural reaction of my hand, instead of letting go, I clinched my grip tighter and the now, jackhammer continued to pulverize my finger. Finally got it to stop and jumped up and did the owey dance and look around to make sure none of my neighbors saw me. In my mind, the one thought, Damn that was dumb, rang out.

All in all, I had a good day, with that exception. And yes, although bruised and sore, the finger is still functional.

So here's to all those, That was Dumb, stories.

been there, done that! most recently, i cut a piece of wood molding on the miter saw. i measured and made my cut. i knew i had things right. well i finished the cut and grabbed the piece to put it on. it was way too long. i just couldn't believe it! so i got another piece, measured, and made the cut. :dunce:

it was at that point that i realized i did make the right cut on the first one. i just took the wrong piece off the saw to bring in. dummy!!! so i grabbed the right piece and put it in place like nothing happened. unfortunately, my loud swearing and complaining (it isn't cheap wood) were heard by my wife. so she was peeking and saw me figure out my screw up.

man, it's hard to live something down after your wife knows about it.

lol... glad I'm not the only one!! Just yesterday I had the air out blowing out the plug holes on my xj, and noticed a lil puddle of oil/water collected in the AC bracket.. Well I thought I'd just blow it out too..... All in my eyes, face, and mouth that is... :dunce:

Been there done that....lol. I used to have a bad regulator in my drivers door. When I rolled the window down to far I had to pull up on the window while i turned the crank to roll it up again. If you have this problem you should NEVER grab the window with a pair of pliars and try to pull it up. In my defense I had been up 23 hours striaght and better judgement went out the window at about hour 21.....lol. Wound up driving home with a trashbag over the door. On the upside I now have a nice window with no scratches and a regulator hat works great. Thanks Paul

I've got a few, best one is I was working for an Off Road shop a few years ago, and was finishing up a lift on a "Pretty Truck" Silverado (big stupid 2wd that was a waste of time and money.) I was working under the back end on jack stands, just put some lift blocks in, sitting in the wheel well. I leaned back to reach a tool that had gone a little out of reach and the back of my head hit a corner of sheet metal. Natural reaction is to jerk forward (ya know?, to move away from the sharp object?) and proceeded to slam my forehead straight into the over load spring. I had a 2.5"x.5" red mark the bruise on my forehead for about a week.

Most recent: Swapping leaf springs and rear differential of my blue 87 MJ over to the white 92 MJ. I had the blue truck ripped apart the week-end before, so I just needed to get the white truck ripped apart and everything installed. Saturday the front end went great, no hang ups, no problems. Sunday, I'm feeling good, confident that I'll be cruising around by noon. Well, the leaf springs had another thing in mind. Rather, the leaf spring bolts. Now I've run across countless Jeeps with stubborn bolts, especially XJ's rear leafs. But never have I had this much trouble. I let them sit with JB80 for hours, cranked up my compressor to 200psi, and still....nothing. They would spin in the spring bushing, but the nut and bolt would not separate. FINALLY after countless hours they start to break loose, on the 3rd one I got hit. I had been double wrenching (21mm on the nut, 15/16" hooked in) on one side and using a breaker bar and a small length of tube on the other. I was laying under the truck and pulled down on the double wrenched side. That wrench spun so fast on the other wrench that I barely knew what happened.

Been over two months now, and I think the U shaped scar on my forehead from the claw end of a 15/16" wrench is going to be with me for a long long time...

MY last "big dummy" move like that was on casper when I was setting up the steering. I was stoked.. I had gotten the axle under the rig, and was getting ready to hook up the steering. Well I had placed the tie rod into the pitman arm, and had to reach to get the nut for it... well not thinking.. I let go the tie rod(it was sitting there tightly) well needless to say.. it came loose and struck me right in the middle of my forehead. One ER visit later.. for a head lac.. I learned my leson
