project88mj
it starts at the airtube next to the box goes along the fire wall here: then connects to a black canester that is under fill tank for the coolant:
mvusse
Without looking under my hood, but going by your description it would be the purge line from your charcoal cannister. That cannister traps gasoline vapors from your fuel tank. When the engine is running they get sucked in and used up.
Pete M
Yup, sounds about right to me.
BLHTAZ
:agree: It is the vacuum line to the purge canister

ocskipper
Yes, it is part of your emmissions systems and the truck will not smog or run right without it...

ocskipper
Yes, you need it for your truck to run correctly. There is no need to remove it, what is your motive?
project88mj
i want to run a cone filter
Randy in Maine
Keep what you have. These things have lots of issues but "getting more air via a cone filter" is not one of them.
BLHTAZ
There are cold air intake set-ups that will allow you to keep all the needed hoses in place. A little ingenuity and you can make one yourself using most of your existing parts ;)
Pete M
They are only "cold air" if they close off the intake from the rest of the engine bay. Otherwise they are more of a "hot air".
bigd44889
what if u take the fuel tank off and run a fuel cell and plug the vacume from tank to canister oh i know still runs great u don't need it it is a fancy breater for the gas tank disciption above is how mine is set up and runs fine mine will soon be cold air cone filter thu the hood
Pete M
If you have no need for the charcoal canister, then you can simply cut it off from the system. But regular gas tanks like to leak vapors and those vapors need a place to go rather than just stinking up your truck.
ocskipper
The smell is the problem I had when mine went bad. I couldnt fix it fast enough! :ack: If you take it off make sure you know what your doing.
project88mj
can't i just cap it at the tank and be done with it? if the vapors can't get to the charcoal canister they should not be an issue right?
Pete M
Pressure from inside the tank will push the vapors out through one way or the other. The canister and its tube give it a place to go, the charcoal absorbs the particles, and then the vapors are pulled into the engine due to vacuum from the engine. project88mj
so i need to just get the gasses back into the motor right?
jtdesigns
so i need to just get the gasses back into the motor right? Yes,, but don't burn your truck to ground getting it there. You can run a cone, I'd just cut a slightly smaller hole then the hose in the intake tube and seal it with a lil RTV. You'll be OK, but don't remove it...
