feerocknok
I'm trying to decide where my spare should go. I've got a lond bed, but I don't really wanna fill the bed with a tire. I also don't have the holder underneath anymore, not sure if the ProComp 31'd fit under there anyways. So... Any ideas? Thinkin about mounting it against the inside of the bedside, but it might look dorky? Haven't seen it on an MJ. I like it at the rear, cause bedspace is kept and the traction is improved, but hay bails like it there more than tires. For an update on the truck: It's all ready for the motor, and I'm gonna pick up metal for the bumper soon! Think I'll throw some spacers on the front end, cause I like how it sits and the weight of the motor and bumper are non-existant right now. DirtyComanche
Mount it to the back of the tailgate, or in front of the grille. Or, on the ROOF! Be like those Xj dorks.
feerocknok
Mount it to the back of the tailgate, or in front of the grille. Or, on the ROOF! Be like those Xj dorks. Tailgate might not be bad. I was thinking about making a new rear bumper anyhow, maybe I could do a swing out carrier. At least the roof's better than the hood.
CWLONGSHOT
I think a swing out on a MJ would be cool!! I have been fiddling with the idea as well. I like some of the ideas I have seen, but like you I am unwilling to sacrafice the bed space. If I come up with anything feasable, I'll be sure to post up my findings!! CW PS...Nice MJ!!! I agree with your comment about the spacers....I like the look of it now...almost level!! My front is set almost twoand a half inches higher than the rear and I am still not level!! I am thinking of swapping out my rear shackles for shorter ones, as I cannot go higher inn the front with out a serious steering upgrade!!! pingpong
There is a company making what looks l;ike Baja style tailgates that can hold a spare tire. Might be kinda cool for you
feerocknok
What's a baja style tailgate? I'm lifted 3" in front and 2" in back, but it'll probably end up 4"/2". From the ground to the center of the flare in front is 36-3/8" and in rearis 36-1/2"; pretty level.
87manche
I know there's a company making a swingout for the yota crowd, might want to take a look at it for some ideas. A 31 will fit under the bed, mine does with room to spare. I generally strap mine from front to back, up against the bed rail when I'm wheeling. Bounty Hunter
I've got a plate with a 1.5" acme nut welded to it that'll be bolted beneath the bed. The spare will then lay flat in the bed secured with the 1.5" acme rod with a Y handle. When the spare is removed, the bed is unobstructed for hauling. onetallmj
I am in the same boat, can't find a place to hold my 35" tire. In the back of some 4wd mag, there was an advertisement for a swing out carrier that looks like it would fit nicely on the back of a MJ but I can't remember the name of the company. You could mount the tire pointing in and keep the tailgate on or reverse it and remove the tailgate, looked pretty cool but was expensive if I remember right. jage
Or, on the ROOF! Be like those Xj dorks. Hey now!
feerocknok
In my head I have a swing out tire carrier/tail gate. I'd loose a little bedspace, but not much; I'd keep a tailgate; It'd look cool and replace my '80s bumper.
DirtyComanche
Or, on the ROOF! Be like those Xj dorks. Hey now! Relax, I did it too. Even though my XJ is pretty much stock.
SlickRick421
IT really don't look to bad on the roof Ah dreams of a 4X4
pingpong
IT really don't look to bad on the roof It don't look to good either :nanner: The whole problem with stacking things on top of your rig.. is that it makes them top heavy, and depending on how and where you wheel, you will be hitting it on lots of trees :brows: Also If you are like me... you like the off chamber stuff, and having extra weight up top is a bad idea
Bounty Hunter
Maybe this is the tailgate tire holder some of you are referring to: www.tiregate.com Can be mounted to angle inwards or outwards, and they have vertical and horizontal as well.
