it allows for a longer driveshaft, which increases the distance between the axle pinion and the t-case, meaning a longer driveshaft and a less extreme driveshaft angle (less chance of vibes, less worn u-joints)

It's not especially necessary on an MJ (we have much longer rear driveshafts and so U-joint angles are less severe), but if you can float the money, it's a good upgrade. They tend to be stronger than stock and they seal up the back of the t-case so you can pull the driveshaft without spilling fluid all over the place.

The mega-short SYE's are made for the wrangler guys who are running large lifts. The d-shafts on the wranglers are VERY short and they need all the extra clearance that they can get.

On the MJ's it's not recommended to go with the mega-short SYE. A normal one works fine and will work on the NP231 (j-version) on the MJ's better than the mega-short one's do.
