JeepcoMJ
it allows for a longer driveshaft, which increases the distance between the axle pinion and the t-case, meaning a longer driveshaft and a less extreme driveshaft angle (less chance of vibes, less worn u-joints)
BLHTAZ
these guys make a sye that is shorter then a normal one what is the advantage? http://www.jbconversions.com/pages/ I put that one in our YJ about 2 years ago. Nice kit...
Pete M
It's not especially necessary on an MJ (we have much longer rear driveshafts and so U-joint angles are less severe), but if you can float the money, it's a good upgrade. They tend to be stronger than stock and they seal up the back of the t-case so you can pull the driveshaft without spilling fluid all over the place. Motion Offroad
The mega-short SYE's are made for the wrangler guys who are running large lifts. The d-shafts on the wranglers are VERY short and they need all the extra clearance that they can get. On the MJ's it's not recommended to go with the mega-short SYE. A normal one works fine and will work on the NP231 (j-version) on the MJ's better than the mega-short one's do.
DirtyComanche
As motion said... Go with a regular one... The benefits are none on a MJ. FWIW, PORC has their HD SYE on for $159.99 US (IIRC). Gotta mention the word 'pirate4x4' though.
