rubiconron Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I've got an 88 auto that makes a lot of noise when I go over bumps. It feels like something is banging on the floor. I was wondering if it might be the tranny mount. I haven't looked yet. Just wondering if there was something else to look for. Mine is 2wd. Thanks, Ron
redneck23ms Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 could be a tranny mount. my first guess would be a worn control arm bushing.
Oizarod115 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 depending on the type of noise i would suggest exhaust bangin on the crossmember like the last guy said
BLHTAZ Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 It depends on exactly where the noise is. If it seems to be coming from directly under you or the passenger seat, then it's likely to be a control arm. If it's more to the center-rear of the cab then it's likely to be the tranny mount.
jtdesigns Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I have a banging on my XJ. I was kinda thinking it was something to do with brake pads and maybe the caliper.. FWIW.. I was messing around with it today and the trac bar is way lose... (BIG surprise huh just replaced the mj's this summer) Maybe it has something to do with the banging sound too.. :dunno:
rubiconron Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 I've replaced the exhaust already so I don't think that's it. I guess it could be a control arm bushing. It feels like its right under the floor. My track bar is good. Thanks for the help. Ron
Pete M Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I wouldn't assume it's not the exhaust until I crawled underneath and shook the exhaust pipe as hard as I could. It could simply have popped out of the mount.
comanche87 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 :agree: my exhaust was hitting the cross member i had to get a new bracket and bend it just enough so it wouldnt hit.
