lift kits

Recommended Posts

ok i was lookign at lift kits and I'm stumped between:

motion offroad 4.5 inch lift

motion offroad 6.5

rubicon 5.5 inch lift

I'm going to be 4x4ing alot and up here its alot of mud hills and water not alot of rocks but i do hope next year to take a 4x4 trip to the states. so pretty much i want an all round lift kit i know you'll never find a lift kit that does everything but i just want to make sure i get a strong reliable lift that can take abuse.

also would it be a good idea to get long arms for a 4.5 inch lift?

Rubicon Express makes great products. I am running their lower control arms, drop brackets, and springs. All are quality. I would have saved a lot of money if I had just started with their kit in the first place.

I've also wheeled with lots of other rigs running their kits - XJs, MJs, TJs, YJs, etc. I've been impressed with most of their stuff.

From my experience with MO, their stuff is good quality. As for how much lift depends on tires. I run 4.5" with 235/75R15 (29"), and it is right at the absolute limit where the tires look too small. I would suggest running at least 31" with 4.5" lift. From the Comanches I've seen in action, 33" tires and a 6.5" lift (soa rear) is a good looking and very capable combination. That is the ultimate goal for my truck, but can't afford it right now. Getting 33" tires next (should work with my 4.5" lift and minor cutting), but not in the near future. After that I can lift it more.

Motion Offroad is high quality and i wouldnt hesitate to buy from them. Rubicon Express is pretty good as well.

Now, don't buy a lift now knowing you want to go higher in the future. just save your money and buy 1 lift. i've had about 4 different lift setups, with a 5th different one going in this winter. i could've saved a butt load of money if i would have just bought the right lift. If you go any higher than 5-6in, then go longarms or at least drop brackets.

i am a fellow mud slut and mud involves water. so i would recommend the 6.5. motion makes great stuff and is a very user friendly company. not to say RE is bad they make great stuff too. but in NH we say the bigger the better.

To me it all depends on how you are going to use/abuse the equipment. In MYopinion anything over 4" requires a LA setup or drop brackets. :brows: I ran the RE drop brackets for a while on POng. I even used stock upper and lower control arms on it yeahthat.gif and it worked great, and I had a ready supply of control arms. The only thing I did was weld some 1/8 plate along the uppers and lowers to strengthen them a lil :D I am not sure how much they sell for now, but drop brackets, and a good quality trac bar and mount, and a set of 6.5 springs is almost as cheap as you can get. Either way you need the trac bar/mount

Currently I am running theRock krawler 3 link in the Turd. I do not recommend any suspension using hiems/johnny joints for mudding. They will wear out quicker, and require more maintanance.

These are my opinions and do not constitute an endorsement for any product rtft.gif
