ironhead03 Posted November 3, 2008 Share Posted November 3, 2008 I have the same problem as some of the guys on here with low oil pressure on my 4.0 after it warms up. I have been debating on wether i should put new rod and main bearings in the truck or a different block. I can get my hands on a low milage 4.0 out of a 97 tj. Has anyone done this. Would i be able to bolt all of my componets on to the 97 block and head? Would i run into any problems? I have an automatic in my truck. I just did the bearing thing and spent nearly $500 doing it :shake: . I wish I had just spent the money and bought a reman engine for it as my pressure is better, but not near what it should be. A complete engine swap wil take 2-3 days to do it right, and that is if you have all the tools. To swap a crank and oil pump.. well that can take anywhere from 4-8 hours depending on your skill. I mean 25,000 rpm is wayyyyyyyy up there... :rotfl2: hehehe... Well my oil pressure is just sad, sad, sad... 40 psi at start-up 21 warmed, and warm at idle around 2 or 3 psi.. :( Bearings and everything to buy to change them (gaskets, seals, oil, filter, time) is going to be just as much as a low mileage JY you pull it special.. I'm just really pissed at my truck right now.. I have a few issues that me and her have to work out. I'm thinking that I'll just ride it till she blows and swap hell I don't know what I'm going to do,,, I'd love to have a HO stroker, but I's poor and lazy,, I can't wait till Nobama gets in Office, so I can sit on my butt and let all you hard working folks pay my bills........ :nanner: :peek: :teehee: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As for tools i got more than i would care to count and plenty of skill,i just do'nt have the knowledge about the swap. (or i've got problems i don't know about ;) ) the only thing is the temp sensor from the back of the head has to be put somewhere else or killed altogether because the 97 doesn't have it. mine was adapted into the thermostat housing. Do you know if my distributor and oil pan will work in the 97? All i would be getting with the 97 is a bare block and head.I had sold this block to a kid early in 2008 and know the history on the motor,its a real good donor.Sounds like this may be my best choice.
