CMMagnussen
Will they fit in the rear of a comanche and if so do they provide lift drop or what? thanks
CWLONGSHOT
There are many many variables when you go down this road. Some not so bad others very harsh. One of the biggest issues is OAL, the MJ pack is 52 or so inches, not many are this long. If you find one from a full size it will likely be so stiff in the much lighter MJ it will jar your teeth loose first 6" pot hole you hit. If you must experiment, I would get those leafs and add a couple of them to your pack and see what you get. I know Pete has experimented this way with exploder packs and got a couple inches of lift. Pete M
Oh no, not "lift", explorer leafs give you a "drop". They are flatter than MJ leafs. I was using them as AALs to get more load capacity (and to a lesser extent to fight spring wrap). They might be good as leafs in a bastard pack for an MJ going SOA but not wanting the full 6 inches of lift.

If you had to guess,,, about how much drop would they provide?
Pete M
An inch or so I'd guess. 2wdMJ leafs will also drop an inch over 4wds. Condition matters a lot in this though. Saggy leafs can be found anywhere. And don't use the Explorer main leaf, always reuse the MJ main. The Explorer main's center hole is a bit off. Also the Explorer leaf packs use a slightly larger centering hole. Oh, and there are two different Explorer multi leaf packs out there. One is stiffer than the other. But I couldn't for the life of me find an Explorer guy that could help figure out which is which in the 'yards. 4wd MJ on the left, 2wd MJ in the middle, Explorer on the right. These packs are obviously unloaded so don't assume that you will literally get a 2" drop from the Explorer leafs. Experimentation is the only way to know for sure what will happen with the leafs you find in the junkyard.
CMMagnussen
Well went over this before ride quality is not a concern since I'm not rock crawling I am mud bogging and hauling. so in stock form a J-truck spring pack won't do anything? CMMagnussen
something fun to add in......... 1955-1975 CJ-5/6 front = 36" x 1.75" 1955-1975 CJ-5/6 rear = 42" X 1.75" 1976 on CJ front = 42.5" x 2" 1976 on CJ rear = 42" 2.5" YJ front = 42.5" x 2.5" YJ rear = 42" x 2.5" Late Wagoneer front = 42" x 2.5" with offset centering pin 2" Late Wagoneer rear = 52" x 2.5" (may be 48" i forget) Manche rear springs are 42" correct? so in theory wagoneer or J-truck rear springs would add some lift? CWLONGSHOT
Manche rear springs are 42" correct? Incorrect, MJ springs are 52", static and closer to 57" with the weight of the truck on them. CW
Lewt2007
i have j20 front full leaf packs under the rear of mine and they ride better than you would think that they can. the leaf packs are the full packs with the ends cut off the main spring bolted to the Comanche main leaf spring with a two inch add a leaf. minydigger
I have a set of stock waggy rears on the rear of my MJ with a spring over and it matches nicely to the 4.5"s of lift I have on the front.
CMMagnussen
Thanks a ton miny thats what I was looking for right there. My lift schedule got pushed ahead because my transmission swap has forced me to use a 208J so easies way to fix my driveshaft issues is to lift the truck
comanche09
I have a set of stock waggy rears on the rear of my MJ with a spring over and it matches nicely to the 4.5"s of lift I have on the front. Reviving this thread due to recent topics on SOA. How do they flex offroad?
comanche09
I yanked a set of '88 Grand Waggy leaves from the u-pull. They are beefy 5-leaf springs with less arch. I will post with results soon.
Incommando
Waggy rear springs are notorious for wearing out. The term is "wag sag" and is a common occurence. So as with any used spring set, what you wind up with lift-wise will depend on the condition of the donor springs well as the original application. comanche09
Very true, even my original 2wd springs with only 100k on them were sagging. But I'm looking for going SOA and getting 5" lift max (hopefully 4.5") and some more weight capacity. The shackles on the waggy are shorter too. I carry a 250 quad in the bed, and utility trailer with 500 quad on it, most times I drive my truck. The 3" motion offroad lift leaves can't carry the weight well. I'm having ground clearance problems with my SUA offroad. Also, I noticed something interesting about the two Waggys at the U-pull. One was an 88 the other an 84, both with 360's and 4x4, but the '88 waggy leaves were 5 leaf vs the '84 4 leaf (and thinner leaves). The '84 leaves were almost flat unloaded and the '88 have arch and a thick overload leaf. Maybe the '88 had tow/haul package?
