NO BRAKES!!! Help please!

Recommended Posts

Well, my Comanche has been sitting idle for about 9 months and I finally went to get the clutch installed. In that time, the brakes have decided to fail. The brakes themselves are fine, but when I hit the brake pedel, it just goes to the floor and the truck won't stop. Is this a problem with the vacuum booster? Is there a common fix somewhere? Thanks in advance.

It's the master cylinder that has most likely taken a dump,

Check the fluid in the resivoir if it is full and you have no brakes Get a new master cylinder.

JUST HELPED A FRIEND W/ HIS BRAKES. I WOULD TRY BLEEDING THE BRAKES FIRST. HIS CJ WAS SITTING WELL OVER A YEAR. IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW CHECK YOUR REPAIR MANUAL. IT'S ALSO CHEAPER TO DO THIS FIRST.

the vacuum booster and bedweightsensordoohickey wouldnt cause brake failure completely, the booster only helps, you can test to see if it is good (when the brakes work) by pressing the pedal then turning on the truck, you'll feel it come on.

my bedweight thing is sorta dangling right now and my brakes are fine so i don't think that causes complete failure (but i prolly should fix that huh?)

sounds like a bad master cylinder.
