clarkerussell
Well, my Comanche has been sitting idle for about 9 months and I finally went to get the clutch installed. In that time, the brakes have decided to fail. The brakes themselves are fine, but when I hit the brake pedel, it just goes to the floor and the truck won't stop. Is this a problem with the vacuum booster? Is there a common fix somewhere? Thanks in advance. Clarke
Stumpy
check the lines and load sensor thingy in the back(it senses weight in the bed and adjusts brake pressure to rear) they are prone to failure.

Clarke It's the master cylinder that has most likely taken a dump, Check the fluid in the resivoir if it is full and you have no brakes Get a new master cylinder. bwatsoncj
JUST HELPED A FRIEND W/ HIS BRAKES. I WOULD TRY BLEEDING THE BRAKES FIRST. HIS CJ WAS SITTING WELL OVER A YEAR. IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW CHECK YOUR REPAIR MANUAL. IT'S ALSO CHEAPER TO DO THIS FIRST.
partsmj
Is there any fluid in the master cylinder? If it is empty, fill it back up and look for a leak, start in the back by the rear axle and check the lines. Good luck.
Oizarod115
the vacuum booster and bedweightsensordoohickey wouldnt cause brake failure completely, the booster only helps, you can test to see if it is good (when the brakes work) by pressing the pedal then turning on the truck, you'll feel it come on. my bedweight thing is sorta dangling right now and my brakes are fine so i don't think that causes complete failure (but i prolly should fix that huh?) sounds like a bad master cylinder. -nick
clarkerussell
I checked the fluid... it was brown and ugly, but it was there... I guess it's the master cylinder...
DirtyComanche
Contrary to popular belief, the height sensing porportioning valve seems to do diddly squat. Or at least that's how I see it.
