DirtyComanche Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Due to a slight lack of parts avaliability, I did some strange things today. I purchased a 84? Grand wagoneer LPD44 front. 3.27 gearing (booya) hub to hub. Sadly the steering is a bit fuxord. I purchased a 8- Izusu Trooper 12 bolt. 4.56 gearing, posi, disks. Drop out third Tha plan is to narrow my existing ford HPD44 housing to fit the GW shafts and weld the necessary bracketry onto it. I have decided I will keep nearly all of the jeep brackets in the same place with the exception of the track bar mount. It will be moved to the top of the tube, depending. A set of HPD44 gears/carrier will have to be found, and the front will also be welded. I am going to run the chevy 6-bolt pattern and possibly high steer, depending how things work out. And I located a set of chevy 6 bolt 15x8s. Total cost so far: Too much. The only thing that concerns me is that the Izusu rear might be a tad narrow, and I don't want to buy spacers. It measured 59" WMS I believe. Grr.
CWLONGSHOT Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 At 59" its wider than the 8.8 and thats driveable with propper BS rims. So I would say you are/will be fine, with propperly back spaced rims. Sounds good!!! CW
DirtyComanche Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 I'd ask what an 8.8 actually measures, but I don't think anybody knows... I've got 1.25" spacers on both sides of mine right now. Is it 58" WMS? Or 57.5"? This is going to be a bit tight, perhaps... Oh yeah, anybody remember exactly how wide the leaf spring perches are supposed to be? My old oens are 43.5" Centre-centre. That's wrong, by a bit. I'm thinking 42"?
87manche Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I'll measure for you, I've got a d35 that was just taken out of the Mj sitting in the drive.
BIGHEEP Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Oh yeah, anybody remember exactly how wide the leaf spring perches are supposed to be? My old oens are 43.5" Centre-centre. That's wrong, by a bit. I'm thinking 42"? X2 ???
pingpong Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Remember to truss the Isuzu axle. I would measure how wide the WMS is on my 8.8 but I am to lazy to get off my Fat A$$ You got no bed, wo why does it matter how wide it is anyways :dunno: If it was me, I would just run the LPD, as you won't have to worry about the pumpkin caving in your exhaust under extreme flex situations like I do :brows: Just have the "c's" cut off and rotated up. would be much easier. I would also do the leaf conversion while I was at it
DirtyComanche Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 If I rub frame... Okay, yeah, it doesn't matter. Even with the flatbed on it it should be fine. Uh, I just gotta make sure this isuzu rear is what it's supposed to be...
DirtyComanche Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 Image Not Found Hmm? Wire wheel? Sand blast? Spray them with acid? Or just hit them with tremclad (rustoleum)?
ROADLESS Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I say at least wire wheel em. I've been using the brass wire wheels lately and am pleased. For paint: Duplicolor Engine enamel IMO. I have used rustoleum, but now use Dupli and really like :chillin: !
feerocknok Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 My pops swears by Rustoleum, but I've only had bad luck with em. The 96¢ WalMart paint has been the best paint I've ever bought.
DirtyComanche Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 Anybody have an idea on those spring perches though?
mjeff87 Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I can measure the D44 I have (sitting in a wheelbarrow beside my deck at the moment  ) when I get home from work tonight. Whaddya want, spring pad center-to-center? Anything else? Jeff
DirtyComanche Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 Just spring pad centre-centre. Everything else gets welded on in random places.
