  1. My current Dana 30 in my '86 has a bent axle housing, making it impossible to get my axle shafts back in after I was replacing a seal. Anyways, tomorrow I'm headed to the junkyard to pull a Dana 30 off a '98 Cherokee. I can't think of any major problems with doing this swap, but wanted to double check and get input from everyone on here, as I know there are probably many that have done something similar or know things I don't. I will most likely be using my original carrier with a new locker so that my gearing matches. Anyways, as the title states, anything I need to know??
  2. Several months ago i replaced the orginal front axle for one out of a 94 XJ. During the swap i replaced all front end bushings, ball joints, u-joints, and axle seals. I also installed a rough country adjustable track bar (The truck has an unknown lift that came with it). The front end was aligned right after the swap. After the swap i noticed a hard clunk when going around tight turns mainly switch backs, and when hitting bumps while turning. I had the mechanic that performed the alignment try to search for the cause, but he couldn't narrow it down. The one thing he did notice was that the sway bar had some witness marks at the bushings where it looked like it had been shifting side to side. When i got it home i disconnected the sway bar and took it for a ride, and the noice was gone. Thinking that this was an issue with the bushings binding i went and greased up all the sway bar bushings, put it back together, and the noise was back. Today while doing some electrical work i noticed that some of the grease had made its way onto the passenger side coil springs. I went and check the drivers side and there was grease on the frame rail and the road grime had been scraped away. So it looks like this issue may be with the sway-bar or sway-bar links. I did my research before performing the axle swap, but maybe i missed something. Do i need to get a different sway-bar for the 94 axle and/or different end-links? Driver's Side: Notice the vertical scrap on the frame, just above the sway-bar end-link. Passenger's Side: Notice the grease on the coil spring, above the sway-bar end-link.

So for about 3 months now Ive had a ford 8.8 ready to swap in including a new 5.5 inch lift. :doh:I have everything to do the lift and swap and i know how to do it, but i haven't yet because its different gearing then my dana 30 upfront right now and i need a drivable car and 4wd here in the upcoming colder months. But now that i have this 1995 4wd cherokee with a non CAD dana 30, I'm going to pull it out and have it re geared and put that in my comanche. I'm not going to build it up yet because i don't have the money because i started school and can't work as much, but i just want to replace what i should and get the parts to re-gear it. I'm just wondering what i need to buy for a re gearing? thanks. Id like to get the parts so that i can do this ford 8.8 swap, new 5.5 alexia lift and then this dana 30 all in one weekend. BTW I'm not doing it myself, but i just want to have all the parts ready to bring to the shop. also, the shop in town here is cool with bringing in your own parts. . :MJ 1: . (me after swap)
  4. So I'm getting all the supplies for my 8.8 swap and i need to get some new 4.10s for my dana 30 cause its geared with 3.08s right now. Whats th best and cheapest ring and pinion and some websites have a lower ratio carrier. whats that? thanks and if i need anything else tell me please.
  5. I know i know, back to back threads = :shake: :thwak: :roll: :nuts: but i have several ideas in my head that i know i will forget if i don't get them done all at once. The question is simple, if you were to build the toughest/strongest MJ possible while keeping it as stock as possible (3in lift max) and costs reasonable, how would you do it? I already have an idea and wondered what you guys might do differently. The goal here is to make a truck that looks near stock, but can be jumped 2ft in the air, framed in a mud pit, but can still be drove to work the next day and ride like a car. Note: I said car not Cadillac :D Here is what i think is an excellent starter recipe. DO NOT INCLUDE accessories like fog lights, winches, bead locks, rock sliders, OBA, half doors, fancy bumpers etc > Chrysler 8.25 rear w/ chromoly shafts and ZJ disc brake swap > Dana 30 front w/ chromoly shafts > SYE of somekind (kit or HnT) > Metric ton springs > WJ knuckle, high steer, and brake swap > Brown dog or some kind of HD motor mounts > Bilstein or some other high quality shocks Have fun, :thumbsup: FPC, out.
  6. I have an 87 2wd 2.5 5 speed with what I believe are 4.10's. I have an 89 4.0 front axle with 3.55? I'm currently looking at an 85 XJ with 3.73's and the rear has issues, broken teeth and maybe more. The XJ is the 2.8 and if I stay with 2.5 for the 4x4 swap what should I go with for an axle ratio? I also have a V8 that I may drop in some day.
